6v vs 12v battery question

I have two battery questions that I can't find answers to. I'm hoping that the questions are not too stupid.

1. Amp-hour ratings - when I look at battery specs, I see different amp-hour ratings for different periods of time for the same battery, but when people talk about batteries, they only mention amp-hours. What time period from the battery spec charts is commonky used?

2. For 6v batteries, I understand that I'd need two hooked in series to make it 12v. If I'm am looking at a single 6V battery that is 100 amp-hours (made up number) when I hook up two of them in series to make a 12V system, do I have 100 amp-hours at 12v, or would I have 200 amp-hours? Wasn't sure if amperage gets cut in half because voltage doubles....

Thanks for the help!

Yes, but he could have at least made up a credible one. My goodness....

I don't see much reason for getting 2*6V @100 AH each. Unless you have a really small trailer or van, or lifting 62-63 lbs is difficult to you. Most 2*6V setups are 220-230 AH per battery. 63 lbs is a lot of weight to lift, I have to say.

It was a made up number to ask his question.

He din't say he was getting 6'ers at 100 amps, I doubt there is such a thing.

I agree, good information! Believe it or not, I did read that first thinking that it would be in there, but it isn't. Figured that I needed the "12 volt side of life for dummies" version.

Thanks for the help!

Series= add voltage, same amps. Parallel = add amps, same voltage.

The standard most used for RV is the amp hour rating over 20 hours.... the time it takes to draw the fully charged battery down to 10.5V (empty) at a constant current of 5 amps.

Yes, two 6 Volt 100AH batteries in series will give you 12 Volts at 100 AH.
