A/C Problems

I have a 1999 Newmar fifthwheel and the AC stopped blowing cold air. Had a mobile mechanic come and of course, wanted to replace it. Here in Las Vegas it is 100 degrees, so not much wiggle room. The problem is the unit they brought to install, was a different footprint. It was a Duo-Therm Brisk Air II. After a little research,I found that I need a Brisk Air I. I can not find one of them listed anywhere. Does anyone have any knowledge on this subject? Any thoughts will be appreciated.
By the way, it is a 15,000 btu ducted unit.

Thanks everyone. Will know better what direction to take after making some phone calls in the morning. It seems as though none of these projects can go smoothly.

I bought a spare old style DuoTherm Heat pump since I have three and the newer ones require special control boards and sometimes new Tstats. This Ebay seller makes a distinction between Brisk Air and Brisk Air II. Maybe this is the one you need.

Tried to post all of the Brisk Air's they have but that link had a percent sign in it so this dumb site will not post it. When is the percent sign problem going to be fixed?:M

IF the install plate on that website is correct, the discharge is in the center and as Chris stated, the OLD Brisk Air the discharge is to one side. So, this model will not work. BUT, If I could not find a older style Brisk Air 1 and had to use the Brisk Air 2, I would double gasket the Brisk Air 2 and use rubber gasket shims to funnel the air to the side discharge and cut out the hole in the roof for the discharge closer to the center right next to the wall of the ceiling duct. Not the best solution, but will work if you cannot find the Brisk Air 1. Doug

This post is my opinion (free advice). It is not intended to influence anyone's judgment nor do I advocate anyone do what I propose.

The air discharge is different- center on the Briskair II, side on the Briskair. Dometic does still stock the Briskair just for Newmar people, though they don't have lots of them.

Does the New Penguin have the discharge in the correct place? If so, go with the Penguin. Doug

Thanks for the replies. Chris, You nailed it. that is exactly what mine looks like. Hopefully tomorrow we will find someone that knows what you are talking about. I never ceases to amaze me how many service "professionals" have so little clue as to what is going on.

Air conditioners come in two by two by many models.. but for this post only one of the "2s" is important,,,, Ducted, and not ducted.

ALL not ducted fit in a 14" square hole.. that is the "Foot print" a 14" square hole. They are ALL the same, a 14" square hole.

Ducted ones the ducting unit may be different. So there you need to be careful, but non ducted, and i suspect that is what you have, all fit the same 14" square hole.. By the way so do Ducted units, but again the ducting unit fits INSIDE the hole, then there is a top part, and a bottom part.

ALL Brisk Airs have what you call a footprint. In 37 years as a Tech, I have never heard the term "footprint". The Brisk Air 2 is just an updated version on the Brisk Air 1 which was discontinued. What do you mean by Footprint? The Newmar Units are bolted from the TOP with Lag Bolts. That means they may have to drill the 4 mount holes in the Pan of the new Brisk Air 2. Is that what you mean by Footprint? Is this unit a HEAT PUMP also? The control kit is transferred from the old unit to the NEW unit, unless the new unit and OLD is a Heat Pump. If the units are Heat Pumps, you will have to install a new wall tstat and change the upper control board. The reason is, you have a 4 button wall tstat(unless it was changed to a 5 button after 2002). Doug
