sorry if i missed something stupid, but i turn my generator on, and it runs correctly. i hear the transfer switch click after a few moments, but no power to the 120v outlets in the coach.

when we did the walk through, it was rushed and i realized after the fact the tech never ran the generator and used the 120v devices. only showed us how to run it.

all the breakers are on in the converter, and i dont have power to the line side of the panel.

i jumped out the generator and it does run under a load.

Hot umbilical?

Have some fun with this!

Take the unit back to the dealer. Have the DW tell them (you fled unseen in your car) that "My husband the tort specialist is in the hospital on life-support because of near electrocution".

Wonder where the thousands of tons of drugs go to? Well they go right to the workplace where the bong becomes more important than preventing idiocy from falling into the hands of an innocent consumer.

A miswired transfer switch rendering a plug HOT is a dangerous situation. Fines of upwards of a hundred thousand dollars will improve their short-term memory. Report this to the Feds.

trying to have this all set for our first trip this weekend.

When I called Monaco for generator problem they had me call Onan. Onan is great. I made an appointment and they fixed the problem under warranty.

It's not a generator issue.

If you are running the Genny with active power to the ats it will go into a safety lockout.

Certainly sounds like the ATS is wired wrong.

If you are familiar with 120 VAC, open it up and look.

Pretty simple: two feeds in (shore power and generator) one feed out (to RV 120 VAC breaker box).

j-d. its my first camper, and i just wanted to re-assure myself.

i am a licensed electrician, and i do realize the severity of having two sources of power connected.

im just baffled that it would come from the factory like this? i was hoping i was missing something, perhaps another manual selector switch?

also,i did not want to alter my warranty, in order to correct the problem, the wires need to bugged in the box adjacent to the ats. unfortunately there is NO slack behind the wall in the romex, and its not long enough to swap the upper terminals to the lower on the one romex..

the last thing i wanted to do was have another problem down the road and not be covered because i re-wired the ats.

Are you saying the prongs on the male plug that would connect to a campground pedestal outlet go HOT when you start the genset and the transfer switch kicks in??? If so, then YES, transfer is wired wrong and that would mean

1. a VERY dangerous condition, and

2. no power transferred from generator output to you coach's 120VAC circuits

With a transfer switch wiring diagram, a meter, a helper and a cool head, you could correct the wiring BUT BUT BUT If the condition's as I understand it above, you are approaching very serious safety issues. Please don't attempt to correct this without gold plated double locking sure fire certainty that you can get it 1,000-percent right.

all the wires are tight.

only thing i could think was it was wired backwards from the factory? when i run the generator, if i take a multi meter onto the shore power plug, i get 120v. is that normal?

How long are you waiting? It takes my Onan about 30 seconds to output AC power.

Loose wire somewhere.

As a first attempt, with the power OFF, open the transfer switch and make sure everything is tight.
