If they didn't come up with something new that pleased their management they would be walking the unemployment line. For a thrill compare Stephen Hawking's concepts with Albert Einstein's.

An overwhelming majority of cashiers freak out if their machine cannot calculate correct change for the transaction. So new electrical math to me, is a yawn.

I, for one, will resist this change. I like the old-fashioned ohm-made definition better.

I didn't read any of the article but did they discuss the magic beans or the dilithium crystals. They have also just come out with a new study where they can make more usable power from a shovel full of plain ole sand compared to a gallon of oil from the ground...

change change change...

its so the average person will No Longer understand Amps... just like they do not understand Volts or ohms law...

but I will continue to use my Fluke meters ..:)

AND the US Navy Issued multi-meter from 1953... it uses a 28 volt battery. but I use (3) 9 volts.
close enough for Government work.

I am the third owner of that meter.. US Navy, John, Me.. It was given to me in 1964 to learn electric.

It probably should be obvious, but this refers to changing the formal definition of an ampere, but not to changing its value in an practical terms. An ampere of current will be the same amount (at least within several decimal places) with either definition. The advantage is that the new definition will be easier--indeed, in this case, possible--to replicate from scratch.

Similar redefinitions have been made to other base units as well. At various times the meter, for instance, has been defined in terms of a fraction of the circumference of the earth, as the length of a certain metal rod kept near Paris, as the number of wavelengths of a color of light, and as the distance light travels in a certain fraction of time. The actual distance a meter represents has not changed, though each successive definition has become more precisely repeatable and testable.

If you use a ampere quantumized cord you will be OK.

I guess it means that if I plug my 50A rig into a 20A unfused plug it will burn up the wires and make lots of smoke??

Does this redefine Ohms law?? I'm just too old for all this new math stuff..

Yes, as an electrical engineer, I have been so embarrassed by this for oh so many years. :S

I think a lot of old "laws" will be needing clarification or complete redefinition as our understanding of these more basic fundamentals grows.

Nice find on the article, thanks for sharing it.
