Atwood Air Command AC, anyone using?

I keep coming across this Atwood Air command 13.5 BTU which claims to be 2000 watt generator friendly, even shows a picture of it with a Honda EU2000i.

I read what I can find and the only LRA that is shown anywhere is 63 Amps. 63 A is way beyond a 2000i capabilitys.

I have read a bit where people talked about running one with the little Honda 2K but they do not go into detail such as temperature, humidity or elevation. I can run my 11K roof air on my Honda 2K when it is cool out, but will not run it in hot humid weather, even with a hard start capacitor.

Does anyone have any real world experience with these units or somewhere that someone with some knowledge has tested them?

Any input greatly appreciated. Jim

That is the reason why we bought them originally. The are not as cold as my coleman, but they move twice the volume of air. I have 2 identical motorhomes, one with 2 coleman 13.5K, the other with 2 Atwood 13.5K.
The first coach can sometimes run both Coleman with the generator, but after a while it pops the breaker.
The second can run all day long with both Atwoods on, no problem.

I have even tested both units on shore power, the one with the atwoods coaled faster and colder.

I have only had them for 1.5 years (the oldest one) so I can't comment on longevity, but so far they work great.

The are great. The controls are years ahead of the controls you get from Dometic or Coleman. The will run on a 2000W and 2 on an Onan 4000. I wish I could change them all.

During a web search I found your previous post about this, you are the only one that I can find that gives it a thumbs up on a 2000 watt genset that is likely doing it in hot humid weather!

Thanks for responding. Jim

One big thing to keep in mind, when I run them on a 2000W generator, the AC is the ONLY thing plugged into it. No converter, charger, nothing. We use the 2000W on the units we have the 13.5K as backup, so it is wired independently from the coach.
I have one coach that the main AC is also a 13.5 Atwood, that one I have used a 2200W ryobi and it run with no problems without anything else, but the converter and charger were on.

A 4000W genset (Onan or Generac) have been able to run 2 ACs, as long as one of them is an Atwood 13.5K. 3 motorhomes have 1 15K (other brand) and an 13.5K Atwood. They all run fine with the generators (I would not recomended for long, but in a pinch...).
The unit with 2 13.5 Atwoods runs really good on a 4000W onan, with some power left.

Will the 15000 run on the 2000W? Or just the 13500's?

The Big Two don't seem to offer 15000 "High Efficiency." Even though campground power is included in the rent (at least most of the time), we hit a limitation on 30A in the summer running our 15000 Coleman Mach. We have to do a lot of load shedding during the heat of the day, so a less demanding 15000 would be helpful.

The 13.5 will run on the 2000. The 15K will run sometimes, but not always. We had a unit with a 15K and 13.5K, both Atwood, and the 4000W Generac would run them.

I have 3 units with a regular 15K (coleman or dometic) and a 13.5 Atwood. All have Onan 4000. I don't allow renters to use them both, but I have tested them both running for hours on the generator, no problem.

We are in Florida, so hot weather and humidity are a given. Altitudo, not that much. I have them run on Hondas and 2200 Ryobis, not a problem.

Thanks for pointing that out, I typed Advent when I meant Atwood. I edited it!

The manual linked to shows 61 amps (thank you for the link) 61 Amps is beyond the specs of the Honda EU2000i.

There seems to be no explanation anywhere on how they have overcome this obstacle. I am sure it could be done and could speculate on how they did it. I would think they would be happy to share how it is done (if they want my money anyway)

You may be confusing two products- Atwood markets the Air Command, a unit made by an Australian company that has been long in the market (plus Atwood is now owned by Dometic).
The Advent brand name was bought and put on a Chinese built DuoTherm clone.

I just installed 2 of the 15k btu Atwood units, and so far they are very nice- low power draw, large capacity, nice thermostat. The 15k btu units are all heat pumps, operating down to ~45 f.

And the Advent are junk!
