As Harvard says, if you need to shift the rolled up position slightly, hold the strap so that it rolls in a slight spiral in the direction you want the roller tube move.

If the awning material has the screw/s (two in my case) in the top rail that prevent the fabric from sliding in the top groove, there is something else that can cause the problem.
I found that I have to have the pull strap centered on the roller tube as I let it roll up. If I don't have it centered, one or both of the side arms won't go into their respective channels.
I used a magic marker to put a mark on the tube so I know where the strap has to be when I roll it up.

As mentioned by Francesca.....fabric has shifted on the awning roller tube.
Is it time for your medication or mine?

Many installers forget to install the screw into the bead of the awning fabric at the awning rail and this missing screw allows the fabric to shift. Common trouble.

On a windy day, I've had the awning material slide in the channel until it's not even from the top channel to the roller tube. Then it rolls up at an angle and isn't tight enough to seat on the hooks for travel.

It's the site. Been goin' on for days!
My tip:
When you first hit "post message" and the site says "no dice", just ignore it. Your post is going up, and it'll go up again every time you hit that button!

To O.P.

Your fabric might have shifted a bit along the rail and gotten "off square". Happens all the time, especially if the little fabric retaining screws on the roller/rail have fallen out. You'll need to slide it back to square.

You should be able to determine which way it needs to be shifted by looking at which side is "off" when you try to roll it up. Once you've figured that out, open the awning and use the arms to hold in place with a little sag in the middle. (Takes the tension off the fabric). Grab hold of the end on the direction you want the fabric to move and give it a tug. Should slide pretty easily. Once you have it where you want it, which might take a couple of tries, do put some screws in it to hold it in that position.

I have the older style awning (2004 vintage) and when this happen to me I pull it down and apply a bias to the pull tab as I let it go up slowly. And yes, I have had to repeat the process because at first I would over correct with this method.
