BATTERY WATER?????

HELLO, of course I always used distilled water in all my batteries. But now with this virus in my area there is NO WATER, NOT EVEN DISTILLED>>> So my batteries are in need of some water... Is it ok to use the drinking water that we get from those 25 cent machines. I would think its better than our water he in AZ from the faucet ... I also have a reverse osmosis water system in the house.... so before I add anything I am looking for any suggestions as to what is better to use or does anyone have any other ideas???
As usually thank you all again for any ideas.....

Capture and filter rainwater. It doesn't have any minerals in it.

My RO water is essentially distilled and I have consumed many dozens of distilled gallons of water

Can't tell one from the other

But some domestic water supplies taste horrid and is even worse for coffee

Down here two cities are famous for sweet water:Tepic and Xalapa

Use your RO water, it's good enough for adding a few ounces to each cell on your battery.

Our water has a pH of 7.8. It has some TDS around 200 ppm. My batteries last 7 years some longer than that. Get over your fear.

YUP!

The company I work for uses "city" water right out the spigot in all of our forklift batteries.. Used hard and put away wet at the end of the shift which can typically run 10 hrs per day..

I can only recall once when we had a forklift battery replacement in over 20 yrs of constant abuse (discharged to near flat then quick charged overnight for the next day shift)..

Myself, I would not want to use my well water, HEAVY iron solids (looks like red mud), plugs my prefilter often before it gets to my softener system (brine backwash).. Just too much possiblilty of high mineral and salt content in my water.

However, what I do use is simply ANY BOTTLED DRINKING water, yes, they fully remove all minerals and then add back in a touch of minerals for balancing taste, PH levels. Those mineral levels in Bottled drinking water will not substantially harm your batteries..

Allowing air to get to the plates will do more damage than the small amount of minerals in bottled drinking water.

I can easily get 10 yrs of operation out of my GC batts just adding bottled drinking water.

I cannot fathom as to why folks are buying and drinking pure distilled water, that has to taste terrible and it is not good for your body since it will not supply essential minerals in your diet you typically get from regular water.

CAN YOU DRINK DISTILLED WATER

Might as well learn what happens because of a good or error.

If your batteries are due for a replacement, get AGM

Say a person goof up and ends up with a 1.300 gravity @ 15c

If the temp climbs to 40c expect a 35% drop in the longevity chemical quotient

I adjusted the SG of my 2 volt cells to 1.260

Units going to Barrow AK were adjusted to 1.310

if distilled water is in short supply. If your plates are exposed, how bout topping up with new acid. ANY parts house has battery acid. Cost lots more than water, but if ya need it ya need it!!
