Coach power problem

I am having a problem with the coach not receiving power from either the batteries or the generator. If I plug in the power cord everything works fine though. I have a 1990 Flair motor home. where should I begin.

I would begin by finding the cause of the loss of 12v. power. Without 12v, your furnace, thermostats, AC, refrigerator, and lights won't be working. You will need a handheld meter to correctly diagnose the problem.

Just from reading your symptoms, this is what might have happened: Shorepower is powering everything well and the generator is started. The automatic transfer switch senses generator power and switches to that source or a manual transfer switch is engaged. The power supplied by the generator is not sufficient for the loads or the transfer switch is failing. The generator shuts down and the auto transfer switch or inverter with transfer switch is called to supply power. The inverter can't draw enough power for the loads and either trips a circuit breaker or blows a fuse on the battery supply cable. At the same time, you may have tripped one or more circuit breakers on the AC load center or the converter.

Would the transfer switch be the inverter or something seperate?

I suggest you check your transfer switch.

I have a 50amp main on panel. Should the dp/dt have been in the inverter comprtmnt?

Is your MH 50 amp or 30 amp? You'll only have a double pole breaker if the MH is 50 amp, 220v. 30 amp is single pole breaker, 110v.

Good morning. I have checked both those breakers. I may have a double pole double throw I haven't located. I will search for it today. I had run the a/c ten minutes prior to this happening. This dp/dt breaker I have not been able to locate. Not in the inverter/electrical compartment. There's only one place I haven't looked. Under the closet.

You have tripped the main breaker in the panel or on the genset. Sounds like the compressor is locked up in the A/C.

Or, a breaker ON THE GENERATOR itself, may be tripped.

Do you realize the batteries do not power the outlets?

You may have to plug the power cord into a generator receptacle.
