So aggravated... Just picked up a new 2016 XLR Thunderbolt toy hauler, and my second night out the tankless water heater won't work. The igniter is clicking like crazy but it just won't ignite.
Dealer is 10 hours away, and I've already called the manufacturers tech support twice and no return call yet
Solved. They are sending me a new gas valve (the plunger gets stuck). Use hammer to tap on the valve with the +/- sign on it. Located on bottom left side of unit. Behind the valve with a Philips head screw adjustment on it. And it will work again, until it gets stuck again...
Great new product on the market for all dry campers that complain about wasting water and/or want to save water whether you have a tank or tankless water heater. Saw a demo of this product at the FROG rally in August. It's called the "Shower Miser", go to www.aquaviewinc.com for information. The product retails for about $55 and solves all the water wasting issues.
This is a popular topic on the Jayco forum, since a lot of (all?) new Jaycos are coming with the Girard Tankless Water Heater.
Assuming you have gas and the lines have cleared (I run the stove a bit), then...
First thing to figure out is whether it's Gen I, II or III. Its likely Gen II or III. Gen I and II have a dial that controls water temperature. Gen III has a digital panel inside.
My Gen II stops heating from time to time. Annoying. To get my Gen II to restart, is a two step process: power off the unit (red switch outside) and press the small black reset button on the white cylinder, left side and back a bit. Google for a video. The reset button isn't documented.
Gen III people are saying that the most common problem is a sticking solenoid. You literally rap it with a hammer. Since I don't have a Gen III I don't know where that solenoid is.
2nd night would indicate that air from propane pipes was already bleed? Do you hear a click at about the same moment when the igniter starts sparking? Might take 2 persons to do the test. Check for loose connectors. When new appliance can fail, most often a screw is simply not tight enough. Also spiders are well known flame killers.
I would suspect lack of gas to the ignition point. Verify your tank valve is open and you may need to find a way to "bleed" the air out of the system to get the gas to the igniter.
