Anyone have any tips/insight into this issue i'm having with my generator...new generator, cannot pull starter cord , seems stuck, can't imagine the piston is seized. Has oil in engine.

Yup.. :h

I would not have believed it myself except I experienced it first hand.

Its not possible Dick.
The atmospheric pressure is actually lower in Colorado so bringing it to a lower elevation would actually "help" turn it over when you pull cord.
However this pressure would equalize pretty quickly. The time to ship it to your house would eliminate this as a cause.
I think what may have happened is this seller has a device where he can remotely unlock these Hondas once he knows payment has cleared. :B
When you called him, it triggered him to hit the unlock button.

Just kiddin ya ...
but what you experienced is an anomaly for sure. :h

So, did you pull the spark plug and try it? Was the last two posts helpful?

Maybe this will be helpful?

Its not stuck because piston is at top or bottom dead centre.
Its not locked cause its got some high pressure mountain air in it.

Its locked because its got rust or something seizing it.
Or... its hydraulically locked (was mentioned)
Or... something has come apart, possibly in rewind starter and jamming it.

To OP, good luck.

I had a similar problem with an EU 1000 I bought on Ebay. I called the seller to tell him he had sold me a defective generator that was locked up and I could not pull the starter rope. He said it had to do with the altitude difference between Colorado and Texas and said to try it again the next day after pressures have equalized. I thought to myself I am not buying that explanation. The next day I tried to pull the starting rope and it worked perfectly.

If the piston is spot on Top or Bottom Dead Center (where it briefly stops going Up or Down before changing over to Down or Up, it can be very hard to pull the engine over.
My logic thinks just the opposite. With the piston at TDC or BDC, the crank can turn with little or no resistance from the piston, and has maximum leverage to move it.

Can you get at the flywheel at all? And just give it a little nudge?

Do not let plug wire short when turning over motor in case it is flooded with fuel.

Pull the spark plug and try pulling the cord. It may be flooded with gas or oil. Do this outside.
