Was working on my Honda generators and was just wondering how many hours one can get from these gensets. Who has the most hours on their Honda?

Thanks

You using it to charge up your batteries? You using any solar?

There is a way to read the hours via the number of times a light flashes after startup. I only bothered to do it once, so I've forgotten the exact instructions.

EDIT: googled it...

I bought my EU3000is new in 2001 and used it for an average of 6 weekends per year for football tailgating. For me, being retired, these weekends are usually 48 hours minimum and living in Alabama it means air conditioning (15k) most of the time. In addition, I have probably used it for 1000 or more hours during power failures at my home. All together I would expect that my usage is 4000 hrs. or more, during the 12 years I have owned it.

I did my first valve adjustment a couple of months back and found they were still within specs before adjustment.

I change my oil frequently and always use Mobile 1 synthetic oil.

The Yamaha 5500 ESD recommended oil and filter changes after 100 hours of operation. A diesel. An oil change and filter every four days.

No hour meter on mine, so no precise figure, but several thousand hours is a realistic guess. I have the extended run tank, and it uses so little fuel that it rarely gets shut off.

A while back there was a guy here that said he had over 15000 hours on his... Smoked but still ran.

You change oil after 20-45 hours?

I use my EU2000i pair for tailgating, so they get used anywhere from 20-45 hrs per weekend (depending on the weather). 6-7 home games a yr for the last 7 yrs., so I probably have around 1200 hrs on them. I change the oil after every tailgating weekend, and I clean the air filter every year. The only other maintenance I've done is replacing the spark plugs, cleaning the spark arrestor (only twice), and replacing one pull cord. I also start them up periodically in the off season to keep everything lubed up well. I don't see any reason why these things won't run another 6-7 yrs, if not longer.

I'm a motorcycle vendor, when we do shows that require us to have a generator our EU along with the Companion can run 24 hours a day for many days straight. Our EU is three years old and has about 2000 hours or so, the Companion is six months and has about 400 hours. We use an extended 6 gallon tank so we rarely shut them off doing an event.

One of my honda 2000's is 10 years old and gets a heavy workout. about 20 times/year it has been run probably 4 hrs/day for 3 days. so probably over 2,000 hrs. Other than changing oil once/year and cleanng the air filter oncee or twice/year and a new sparkplug this year I haven't done anything to it.

(Once i figured out stabil is******for keeping the jets clean and switched to Seafoam!!)

Personally I know many folks with honda or yamaha generators and none of them have had any reliability issues.

I have a Honda 850 genterator I bought as a teenager in 1976. No idea how many hours on it but it has to be a couple of thousand. It stuck a valve once in the early eighties and last month the points finaly had to be replaced. For the last 5 years it has sat at my cabin all winter. In the spring I put in fresh gas and change the oil and it starts first pull everytime.
It was that kind of reliability that led me to buy a EU2000 last week.
