Mr. Heater - Buddy - Oxygen Depletion Sensor?

Hey gang,

Anyone know how the ODS works on these things?

A schematic I came across makes it appear that it's a device separate from the pilot/thermocouple. Is that really the case?

I know that a pilot/thermocouple can be tuned and employed to serve this function. I have a feeling this is what is really going on here.

Or am I wrong?

I'd have to agree, we don't see KendallP in these parts near enough. I will say that I am using the same plan he set into action many moons ago except the solar part has grown just a wee bit. $500 was the set amount and I pasted that by a few hundred. It is amazing what you can do with 720w tracking the sun. ๐Ÿ™‚

Well. It's not much of a "schematic," but you can click here to download the pdf. The drawing is on pg. 6. The arrow appears to point to a specific part of the assembly.

I agree. From what I've seen, a pilot/thermocouple system appears to be proven adequate for the job. So it seems unlikely to add another part when you've already got one that works.

My understanding is that the pilot/thermocouple acts as the O2 sensor. If the O2 gets low, the pilot shrinks, and the thermocouple shuts off the LPG.

I would love to see your schematic.

Post up the schematic.

I believe you are correct that a shift of a pilot flame away from the nozzle occurs as the oxygen content of the combustion air decreases causes heater to shut off, at least for older models, but a dedicated O2 sensor would be a much better design...
