Need drivers door wiring harness, how to ID?

I've had an issue with the wiring in my driver's door for quite a while now. Truck in sig.

It started with my aftermarket alarm going screwy on me, related to the activation of the dome light trigger switch when you open the door.

In a nutshell I found 2 broken wires in the rubber tunnel boot that goes from the door to the body. I went to the stealership and they wanted some stupid amount of money, hundreds of dollars, for a new one. And they had to use my serial number to look it up because there are about 6 different harnesses available for that make and year. Of course, mine was the most expensive.... :R

I managed to pull one end of the boot off, located the broken wires and did a temporary bandaid fix by splicing a short hunk of wire in there with some electrical tape. That was about 16 months ago and amazingly it still works!

I replaced the drivers door speaker about 2 years ago due to water damage. That speaker has now quit working, I'm assuming another wire has broken in the door. The speaker is fine.

Doing the math on the age of the truck, how many times a day the door opens and closes, that's a pile of flexing in that wiring boot.

I'm not willing to spend hundreds of dollars to buy a new harness.

So my next option is to peruse the boneyards for one. But! How do I know which one will be the right one? They will likely look the same. Don't want to take a chance, only to find it's wrong and won't work.

Anyone got any sound advice, not wild guesses?

Anyone had any experience with aftermarket wiring? I've seen a few online places that offer such things.

I could take it out, take it apart and rebuild it myself, but gee whiz that's a pile of work to do.

I did some online research and came up with a GM part number that I believe to be correct.

Today I went to the dealership to run my serial number and confirm the correct part number. I had it right. Very helpful parts guy gave me a quote on the harness. Retail $505.80!!! :E He reduced it to $425. After I fainted and they revived me....
I had to politely decline, thanked him for his help and left with the info I needed. Apparently, 03 thru 07 with the Bose sound system all had the same harness.

This afternoon I went to the salvage yard and on the 3rd stop I found one. Guy before me already took the door panel off and got the speaker, but the bonehead cut the wire off instead of unplugging it. Well, I can cut mine off and solder it on. Armed only with an Olfa knife I had in my jacket pocket I managed to carefully extract the harness from the truck.

Got to the sales counter with it, 15 bucks! Yeah, 15 bucks, heck yes, 500+? Heck no!

I'll try to find the time this weekend to do the swap. Hopefully this does it.

On eBay there are color coded assortments of silicone wire. A whole different world when it comes to flexibility millions of times without breaking strands.

Use whatever gauge heat shrink butt connectors and squeeze the snot out of them when assembling.

There is usually a alphanumeric code on one end or the other of most harnesses. Find the one on yours and you will know which one you need at the junk yard. Or do like 77 says and just replace a piece of wire going several inches either side of the part the broke.

You must call them for some parts. They do not inventory some.

Thanks, I tried their site. No parts available for body wiring harness.

I have done many repairs of the door jam harness over the years at the shops I have worked at, the best thing is to replace the wire at least 6 inches ether side of the door jam and the door so the splice is not in the moving part of the doors rubber boot, and the repair will last about as long as the original harness. while you have it apart, inspect all the other wires as well, and give them a tug and see if they break too if they only have a couple of strands left holding..

Go to the dealer.

Ask to get a quote on the part.

Ask for a printout so you can show the other half since that person controls the wallet.

Use the OEM Part number from the printout to search OEM or aftermarket replacement parts online that has a picture of that specific part.

Use that picture at the salvage yard to find the correct part.

You may also want to use the GMC Owners portal to go to the parts section and see what part number and picture they show for your VIN.
