Odometer???

Just got back from Lake Tahoe and on the way home, I'm watching my trip meter and Odometer,,(which I use quite often cause I don't put a lot of trust in my fuel gauge). Anyways, I look down and realize that although the speedo is working, neither the odometer nor trip odometer is working. On my older coach, I'm not really sure how it works(off the transmission, off of tire rotation, electrically etc etc). Have not pulled the dash apart yet(just got home two days ago) but I guess that's where I'll start. Any thought's or Idea's? Motorhome has about 92,000 miles on it and it was working during the trip. Thanks!

It really should not matter. If the speedo works and the odometer does not you just need a new speedo module.
What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.
Can't we all just get along?

Very good question...it's a Mitchell Motor Coach build and I'm not quite sure what chassis they were using in 95-96 time frame. It's my belief that it's on a Crown chassis not the Gillig. ????

Since it is an older vehicle, what everyone who can help really needs to know is, "What engine/transmission is in your vehicle?"

Gasoline/diesel cubic inches straight six/V-8 front/pusher engine manual/automatic transmission Ford/Chevrolet/Chrysler/Cummins/Mercedes/Volvo . . . .

The odometer and the trip odometer work from the same connection, just the trip odometer is resettable. You will need a new speedometer to fix the problem. I have done this twice in the last 350,000 miles (or whatever since the current speedometer reads 6,000 on my 1988 coach!).

Dunno if it's at all similar, but this happened on our '96 Maxima. It turned out to be the little mileage reset button near the gauge. Took us about 20k miles to figure that out. Tapping on it fixed it.

Since you do not trust the fuel gauge. May be a problem with the flex-circuit board for the instrument panel. All the gauges on my Dodge work except the Tack.
Please give me enough troubles, uncertainty, problems, obstacles and STRESS so that I do not become arrogant, proud, and smug in my own abilities, and enough blessings and good times that I realize that someone else is in charge of my life.

Since the speedometer is working it is probably electronic. Try disconnecting the batteries for a few minutes then reattach to reset everything.

Most odometers work off the transmission tailpiece now days, This also drives the speedometer,, In the old days (say 1950-60-70-80 and even early 90's) it was cable drive, you did not have "Trip" meters then less you had two different dials

Today it's an electronic sensor that talks to the ECM (Engine control module/comnputer) that drives the display. It is.. In theory, NOT POSSIBLE for the speedometer to work and not the odometer.. But of course, that's only theory

Sometimes you may have a situation like I had a couple weeks ago.. The ECM did not fully initialize and I had to shut off the engine and restart.. That fixed it. .
