Hello, We are in very hot South Texas and we plug into a large company Generator for most of the day but in the afternoon our 30 am plug in shore line, will not run both air while plugged into that Generator. plug and cord over heats.
So we will unplug and turn on our onboard Generator which is an Onan and run it for about 2 to three hrs. to cool down in the hot part of the early evening. Yesterday the Gen died after an hour and my husband check it was low on oil so he took care of that, now the Gen will turn over chug a few times then die. He has check the fuel filter and fuel pump, can see it getting fuel. He has now gone to town to try to figure out what else to try: Any one out there have this problem?
Thanks for any help

Make sure you look in the manual for the spark plug gap and get the guy at the parts store to gap it for you.

Thank you both Texas and Kelly We will do those steps tomorrow it has cooled down to 97 in my coach lol Not real thrilled with coach at this time it has NO insulation and we have been using the Generator onboard to help cool down in evening. I printed out the Manuel and told my husband it was for him to read in bed for tonight. We do Gate Guard and are parked in the sun all day. Tomorrow I will go to town and get new spark plugs, I figured "it can not hurt" I can not see how many hours on the gen it is on the bottom of the dash the on button quit lighting up long ago In the coach, and at the same time the Generator died so did my back up camera? I wonder if I have a mouse someplace on board. I have some wild cats that stay under the coach for coolness so doubt it but you just never know. Again
Thank you all for help will let you know if we figure out anything.
Sincerely
Peg

Nap over. Not picking on you Peg. Just hard to help when you have no idea what you are working on. I am really a nice guy as Kelly can tell you.

If it will crank and run for a short time.I would check for AC output at the breaker. It needs AC in order to run. Also make sure the generator section is turning. I have had some with broken belts. Is the air filter clean

Read code 32 carefully. This is what I would check first. Take the battery cables from the gen battery so it's not showing power from the house batteries and test with multimeter and load test it if possible.
How many hours on the unit.
2. Measure battery voltage at battery and genset: recharge or replace battery as necessary.

When I said it "Chugs" a couple of times I meant, it will start for about a Min. then dies, the sounds it makes is a slow chug chug chug.
My husband has cleaned all battery terminals, we have a full tank of gas, he checked fuel filter and pump. And has this code of 32 which is low cranking? It turns over normal and just tries to start. But dies. ???
thanks again.

This is why I left the site. People asking for help. But not telling you what they have. Was ask to come back. But starting to ask myself why. Nothing has changed.

Have you checked the RV fuel level? Remember that as a "safety measure" RV mfg set the generator fuel line high in RV gas tank so that generator shuts off when tank gets to about 1/4 tank.

It is sooooooo frustrating to read symptoms then try to Ouija a generator model out of thin air. This actually applies to any complicated piece that is being troubleshot.

"It sound like - reminds me of" may encourage a more comprehensible realization of a symptom than a single noun description.

Disconnect or turn off all appliances when starting the generator, sounds like you are trying to start with a load, maybe A/C.

Peg, We have some outstanding genset techs here, especially for the ONAN brand. For them to help you best, they must have the full Model Number and Spec Code. The Spec is actually the last character of the Model. The very popular "4KY" has had Spec changes to "K" and probably beyond. KY has no oil pump, oil filter or oil pressure switch. That's because it is Splash Lubricated like a small mower engine. It HAD an Oil Level Switch but that was deleted before the Spec got to K, which is what ours is.
Knowing what you have will help us help you. No need to troubleshoot a feature that you don't even have!

Jd we need to copy what you posted and post every time somebody ask about there gen. Thanks
