Hello, We are in very hot South Texas and we plug into a large company Generator for most of the day but in the afternoon our 30 am plug in shore line, will not run both air while plugged into that Generator. plug and cord over heats.
So we will unplug and turn on our onboard Generator which is an Onan and run it for about 2 to three hrs. to cool down in the hot part of the early evening. Yesterday the Gen died after an hour and my husband check it was low on oil so he took care of that, now the Gen will turn over chug a few times then die. He has check the fuel filter and fuel pump, can see it getting fuel. He has now gone to town to try to figure out what else to try: Any one out there have this problem?
Thanks for any help

Google flight systems generator circuit boards. They sell/repair generator control boards .. think they have diagnostic section as well.

I've repeatedly suggested a 'sticky' post here about posting full identifying info when asking for Onan help. Instead, we still have a half-screen worth of recall info stickies. I've given up on the nodding mods here ever doing anything useful.

Mods, if just one flippin' model of Honda generator rates _two_ separate stickies, all Onans together must rate at least one!!!! How 'bout helping out the few techs still here who have collectively saved RV.net'ers tens of thousands of dollars?

I hate for your to buy parts for it and still doesn't work. It could be several things fuel pump , connection somewhere carburator , board just not sure.
What part of south tx are you in ?
Fred summers is in Leander tx he's about the best that's still working on gens. This is the last number I have for him h 512-260-7127 cell 512-657-7811.
Someone here may have a newer number.

Ok we have changed the fuel shut off solenoid, still do not know how to bypass that oil sensor? Hubby will stay up and check coil tonight not sure what else to try.????Are there electronics circuit boards? As said it turns over and tried start but will not run. Batteries are all good with and with out load. Will change the fuel line this afternoon it was cracked and worn so bought another. I guess next will be the carb. If he can get to it lol

Check the crimp on the wire going to the solenoid. I have found several with bad crimps. To test it take it off and over to a battery.Apply battery voltage to the solenoid wires. You should see it pull in.

Peg61,
I'd like to apologize for all the people on this thread who were born as experts. A simple request from one commenter re: need for more info, should have sufficed. Instead they jumped on you and piled on, as they have on other newbies / inexperienced RVers with questions.

Keep coming back. Not all of the people in the rv.net community are rude and cranky.

I was not being rude or cranky. Just want to know what I am working on.Onan has been building gensets since 1925. So without knowing which one. Which Onan would you guess at. Code 32 covers a number of faults.

Your right people get a little cranky trying to help fix something without being to look at it and with a novice . The experts do the best they can to keep the op from spending thousands of dollars on maybe a simple fix.

Update: Not sure if this is the problem, but the Manual talked about a Fuel solenoid that has a fuel shut off valve so husband undid the screw from the carb. and gas poured out. So he ordered a new solenoid and fuel filter.
It will take a few days to get here. If we are lucky we will be cooled down again. I tried to see the hours on Genset but it will not light up I guess unless Gen is running. And I am a bit confused Kelley are you talking about the house battery which is under the step or a battery on the Generator? I did not know there was a battery on the Generator?
Again
Thank you all
that fuel solenoid can be tested just apply 12 v neg and positive should pull the plunger back I don't even know why they put those on the gen when you have a fuel pump not gravity feed. It could also be your fuel pump if you have the primer when you hold the stop button down you should hear the fuel pump.
As for the battery all are a little differant can you tell which battery your cables run to from your gen. Some trailers have a battery just for the gen some work off the house batteries. I would unhook all the batteries and try to load test them unhooked your only testing one battery at a time. The problem with the multimeter is you may a top charge on it and show good that's why you need the load test or a way to take a little of the charge off and then read it. It's just what I try to rule out first.

My impression is that code 32 is one of those catch all codes that isn't all that helpful .. includes, carb, fuel pump and the kitchen sink.

Ruling out the basics like plugs might help - checking for binding on linkages and other basics should also be performed. If you manually manipulate the carb throttle can you keep the generator running?
