Ran my Batteries Dry

Crap ....

Well, ran my house batteries dry -- filled all four up w/ distilled water and they don't seem to be holding a charge.

Should I fool w/ anything else OR just runt to Sams club and by another 4.

Upgrade your battery while you're at it. A longer box will house a Group 29 battery. I just did & went from a 100 min reserve capacity to a 212 min reserve capacity battery.

they do need constant monitoring. & they are an investment. My last set of grp27's lasted almost 8 yrs. No complaints.

If you're not real good at maintenance, and don't plan to be, get AGMs. If you don't mind your batteries you're tossing money down the rathole.

My experience? WHen the batteries start using a lot of water to keep them at proper level, you may as well replace them with new. Any little tricks to extend their life is just spittin' in the wind.

May e other factors but similar to what we experienced. Batteries started to require a lot of water then they wouldn't maintain a charge. If I had checked them with a hydrometer I'm sure I would have replaced them sooner. Boiled them dry trying to maintain a charge on the road..
Replace them.
I killed them by equalizing or desulfating them I think. Swelled the cases and boiled them dry. No manual with the load management system.
The new ones required several hours, on the road, from the generator to bring them all up to spec. Since then they have not used a teaspoon full of water. It's been a year. They are checked every two weeks, in storage. We haven't used it much and then on shore power mostly.

I would also order a smart mode converter/charger to keep this from happening again... Pick up a PD9280 I guess... You might get away with a PD9260C - maybe the guys on here will dime in how big a converter you will need. The rule of thumb is usually 20AMP capacity per battery.
