Recently posted about failed camera guy said was only supposed to last 4 yrs. Don't trust him now; got to do it myself.

Can you recommend a good camera that I can just wire into the wires I have now? One that is clear, vibration resistant, etc? Also a new monitor if the TFT LCD Color Monitor that came with my orig install 10 years ago turns out to be bad too.

Please remember I am not high tech. I just wire the new one in and see if it works. Too old to learn diagnostic tools, etc. My plan is to wire in new camera, if still no work wire in new monitor, if still no work tie new wire to old one and pull it thru ---- hopefully then it all works.

My new Airstream came with a factory installed backup camera. They used a Voyager.

Thanks, jplante4 for the info. I'll give these RV Cams people a try.

Just how old are you?

(I'm 75 and have many years ahead of me, I presume, with the ability to follow directions and the ability to "learn diagnostic tools.")

jplante4, I also have a 10 year old rig that the rear cam stopped working on this summer. I'm assuming you replaced with a wireless unit. Could you share how that has worked out ? Battery life ?
Brand ? Ease of installation ? Viewing quality ? Like OP, I'm no professional electrician but thought the wireless route would be less hassles than pulling wires, etc.

No, I was able to get a wired unit to work. The tech at RV Cams told me what to get to make it work (needed to go from RCA to coax and back - thank God Radio Shack was still open).

The system is a Safesight 9 inch LCD with a model SC0104 camera with IR LEDs.

Jimmr, I first tried wireless w/Tadi Bros, about 12 yrs ago. It was horrible; every time a big truck passed, it scrambled the signal. Maybe it's better now, and like I said, I'm no tech expert.

WIRED systems are fairly inexpensive so you should replace the equipment at BOTH ends to ensure compatibility.

This is assuming that the old system uses coax for the signal and 12 V for power.

Just call RV Cams and tell them what you have and what you want. Best customer service in the industry. You may be able to find better prices on Amazon or eBay, but if you have an issue hooking things up (and you will if you go that route), you have no one to call.

I had a 20 year old camera that connected to the front tube type TV. You needed to run the inverter to see backwards. Replaced the whole thing with no wire pulling.
