Rotopax opinions?

Just wondering what people think of Rotopax containers. Their main downside is price (a lot more than just a plastic gas can from Wally World), but the advantage is easy placement, the fact that they can be mounted horizontally or vertically, and the ability to have different containers with different fuels, water, or even storage/first aid kids. With a locking handle, they can also be resistant to two-legged scavengers as well.

Even though I've seen a few people with four-wheelers use them (or the Kolpin knock-offs), I haven't seen many real opinions, good or bad, and I'm wondering if they should be something worth considering (or mounting on a motorhome) for extended boondocking runs.

I do know that fuel containers and Rotopax mounts would be more secure on a cargo rack or the side of a small cargo trailer than normal gas cans and their holders. This would allow me to carry a good amount of additional fuel, either as an emergency, or for longer boondocking outings.

Of course, the best of all worlds is a trip to Canada and buying metal Jerry cans with mounting brackets and bringing those back home, but one has to make do with one can buy here in the US.

Thanks. I thought the EPA killed them, but thankfully Texas hasn't gone that route yet.

The reason I was wondering about stacking is if they could be mounted on the top of a truck camper. With mounts there, a set of gas cans would be well out of sight, and they wouldn't be in the way anywhere else.

They're available in the US, even at Harbor Freight. Better cans

I have both the Rotopax and the Kolpin. never had a leaking problem with either. I have them mounted on my atv and I ride quite aggressively, never had a problem.

I did hear of some leaks from the Kolpins but if you contacted them they'd send you a new cap to solve the problem.

I have a pair mounted to my dual sport bike. After bouncing my way up and over a mountain the cans were still firmly held in the mounts. I was sold. Besides there are few gas stations where I take my off road adventures. If you truly have a need for getting fuel out to a remote place, you can't go wrong with Rotopax. If you are just looking for a way to store fuel at a campsite, why spend so much?

The most I have seen is 3 on one mount, but 2 is very common. That is a lot of weight to hang on a mount, unless it is setting on a support or is lying flat. We only hang one 2 gal pack on each mount, as they hang off the back of the Rzr with no support.

After reading the Amazon reviews, they say the same thing you do.

By chance, do you know how many gas cans can stack on one mount, assuming one buys the extensions?

I have used them for several years, after I had problems with the Kolpin cans leaking. They are a very good product and IMO worth close to the price. However, they have an ebay store and sell their factory seconds on there at a much better price. It is a very small company with one gal in the office, but they try their best to provide decent customer service. We have multiple fuel paks and have NEVER had a problem, unlike the leaky Kolpin products.
