I carry a Yamaha 1000 with us to use when we’re camped without power. Most of the time, it’s more than enough for our needs. It will power the PD4645 at full load, and will even run our microwave if I use the inverter to share the load with the generator. On the rare occasion that we need more generator the TC has a Generac 3600LP, but at 18 years old it only has about 125 hrs on it (and it had about 95 hrs on it already when I bought it in 2003) so you can see how much we use it.
One thing I’ve been meaning to change is the type of AC output receptacle it has (NEMA 5-15R) to some type of twist-lock receptacle. The straight blade plugs tended to fall out after running for long periods, and I was using a bungee cord to hold them in.
Finally got my “round tuit” for this little job, and got it done a few days ago. The panel comes off with four screws, and the old receptacle was held in with two screws. I had to use a hole saw to modify the two 5-15R openings in the panel so it would accept a NEMA L5-20R receptacle. There wasn’t enough room for a NEMA TT-30R receptacle on the panel, plus I wanted a twist-lock on the generator. Then I had to make a plate to cover what was left of the old openings. I actually hacked a piece of black plastic out of a front license plate holder that we don’t use in AR. :B
I’ve tested it with a temporary cord I made with a L5-20P on one end, and a 5-15/20R on the other and it works fine.
I also ordered one of each of these dog bones that I’ll carry with us.
