1st Annual MidWest Truck Camper Rally!!! :B

Hi,
My name is Doug, and we've decided to host a rally in Iowa this summer 2013.

The Dates: August 1-5th (thursday-monday morning)

The Location: the Amana Coloinies http://amanacolonies.com/
http://amanacolonies.com/
The RVpark facilities: Amana RVpark http://www.amanarvpark.com/
http://www.amanarvpark.com/

$25.00 Full hookup Grass site; Water, & Electricity 30, & 50 amp.

$28.00 Full hookup Gravel site; Water, Electricity, & Sewer 30, & 50 amp.
Amana RV Park - 1-800-471-7616

$ 7.00 Per person for the tour. Have exact cash in hand to give to the Amana Heritage Society.

The rates for the rv sites are posted.
Campfires are allowed, no wood can be brought in, this is a state mandated law.

As of today (1/3/2013) I have 24 sites set aside for us. These sites are close to our air-conditioned building where we will hold activities. Additional sites shouldn't be a problem. The sites I have set aside are all grass level sites with full hook up: Electricity, & water. 30, & 50amp, first come first serve . If you want a gravel site there is an additonal charge, and those sites are just across the road to us. I picked grass sites for a lesser rate, and closer to our activities building. Let me know if this is not what the majority wants, but the RVpark has 465 sites to choose from and as of now we are the only group there.

I enjoy community get-togethers so we might have more than one potluck meal, I would appreciate it that if you come to the the rally you all will participate in bringing something to the meals, so all will have something. I doubt we go hungry.

The Plan: A caravan tour of the colonies (it will be guided by the Amana Heritage Society.) On Friday morn. or aft. 2-3 hrs for the tour. We will all need to get together and carpool in our trucks. Hope thats ok? We will visit a communal kitchen, church, last remaing operating woolen mill, a wood furniature shop, and brewery. cost per person posted. This place has alot to see and do, many shops to stroll through, resturants, theater, Amana Meat shop & smokehouse, (their smoked hams MMM.) I encourage you to go to the bottom of their home page and view all the different things to see there. You might want to stay longer.
The rest of the Plan: A potluck or two, campfires, table games, maybe all group bingo, ping pong table, anyone want to volunteer and guitar and, sing songs? Maybe a craft for the kids. (Would all parents of kids be willing to chip in maybe $1 extra for a craft?) Bring old christmas cards with christmas scense, to cut up for a christmas ornimate.

Friday Supper, hope you'll all volunteer for a BBQ/Grillen contest!! Enter your masterpiece for all to judge during a Simple side fixens style potluck picnic, in good fun. Don't go to alot of work on this one. If it sounds good to you will do a sign up and one or two of you can sigh up for a pasta/potato salad dish, some beans, chips. Or maybe you all don't mind doing more than one potluck, and we'll just have two. I look at it this way I'd make something for supper anyway just bring it over sit it on the table and try your neighbors dish, and they can eat yours.

Winner gets a prize for the yummest BBQ/Grillen contest. YUMM YUMM!

Saturday Morning, yours to do as you please. Strole the Colonies, or fellowship, your choice.

Saturday Afternoon, craft for the kids, all can prepare for a Big Family Potluck supper , and some prizes after. Campfires, and fellowship. Maybe table games, cards, or bingo sometime on satruday. Of course you can do this anytime if you want bring your favorites.

There is a real nice golf course here. if you golf.

Also there is a theater. There are different show times. My family will probably go to one on Sunday afternoon.

Sunday Morning, Eggs, Ham, toast, and Coffee, by Me, Doug your host.

Not much planned after this, if some of you would like to start heading home after this thats fine, our family will stay till monday. All are welcome to stay and fellowship with us and have a hot dog if you'd like, or leftovers.

Please contact me through private message if you are comming, It is your responsibilty to contact Amana Colonies Rv park to save an RV site. The payment of site will hold that spot.

Please reserve an RV site by June 5th, and contact me and let me know a definite yes if you are comming and how many in your party by June 5th..

If you are interested in coming please send me a PM by June 1st.

You can still come the rally if you didn't pre-register. Rv site rates will be higher. Pre-registration just helped me out with organization and an early head count.

I'm looking forward to seeing all of you,

Happy T/Cing,

Doug :C

Before you head home take some extra time and visit the Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge. 8,500 acre Prairie. Its not far from Amana. Interesting check out their website below.

Thank you to all who attended the 2013 Midwest Truck Camper Rally, it was a huge success. I will leave a link below to my blog. It is the easiest way without having to type the subject over and over again, to just have everyone go to the link.
Yes there will be a 2014 Rally at the Amana Colonies again, July 23- 27th. New post to follow later when more organized. Please watch here or at Truck Camper Magazine for future post.
Thanks again,
Doug

Just got home from the trip to the Montana Truck Camper Rally. Was gone for three weeks visiting many places out west. Took all back roads and highways of the 4200 mile trip except for 350mile where we had to take interstate. I love all the different terrain you see that way compared to the interstate. there is so much of the country you miss going 75mph looking straight ahead at the guy your following.

Realtree,
Actually a trip to NorthStar is in the works for Next years rally. Talked with Rex Willett the other day about it.

One thing is this rally organizing takes a lot of planning and waiting for responses from business which don't happen quickly. Most rally organizers I talked with say plan on 9 months to plan a rally.

Jumbo Jet,

I post a lot on another site and have left and open invitation to all T/Cers to park over night in our drive. Nice level spot, electricity, and water. There is a dump station at a local state park just 8 mile south of our place. That's even a nice place to park. I'm guessing your in South Dakota now. So send me a email if you want to stay the night.

BTW If you haven't been the Devils Tower in Wyoming there is a KOA campground at the base of Devils tower just a half mile from it. What a View.

Attended the rally and had a very good time. The weather was near perfect. When we left out Sunday morning, the temperature was 52F.

I will have pictures when I download from my camera.

Here are some brands of TCs that were present: Lance (majority); Northstar; Northern Lite; Eagle Cap, Arctic Fox; Travel Lite; Snowriver.

I saw a Four Wheel TC and truck for sale while driving through Amana.

Good evening everyone.

Doug - it looks like you are going to have a fabulous turn/out. Make sure my good friend Don Kingfield has found a good "garage door mechanic".

Arrived at the Amana Colonies on Monday, spent most of Monday and Tuesday organizing things here at the Amana Colonies, for the First Midwest Truck Camper Rally. It is Wednesday night and we now have a total of 4 rigs here. Just got done sitting around the campfire meeting some new friends, all decided to turn in for the night. Looking forward to tomorrow when most everyone arrives sometime during the day. More updates later or after the rally. Looking forward to meeting everyone.
