2 Days snowed in planing next season

Living near Chicago we've had 14 inchs of snow and wind chills of -40 for 2 days. My wife is a secretary at local school, I'm retired from AT&T and drive a school bus for the same district. To pass some of the time I've been researching Door County for a trip in June. Kind of narrowed it down to Egg Harbor camp ground. Anyone else been to that cc or Door County, I'll be interested in your experiences. Is anyone else planing or should I say dreaming of greener CC?

Thanks Kittykath for a lot of great ideas, I'll check out the link. CavemanCharlie if the fish boil is like I've had in Micigan they boil pieces of the fish with potatos onions and a bunch of other spices. It doesn't sound great but it's really pretty good. Not sure about the mercury but lake Micigan is pretty big and I don't think they have the pollution problems that some of the smaller lakes have.

Oh, I found it, Looks like fun. What's a fish boil? I'm assuming there boiling fish. Hope they gut and skin them first.lol A little seasoning would be good too.

Um, wouldn't the fish out of a place like that be kinda polluted? Maybe full of mercury? I'm not criticizing. The fish in my area are full of farm chemicals. If I catch one I release it back into the lake. It's all part of life in 2014.

What a coincidence. I've been researching a mini trip to Door County for the past three hours. I was there last year with my teenage son in tow. I want to return with my husband in June. I'm looking into activities that are a touch more "manly" than boutique shopping and winery tours. Teenage son was a trooper and appreciated it when I gave in and went ziplining with him.

Among the activities are lighthouse, cherry orchard, brewery and winery tours, strolling along either shore, the popular fish boil, Segway & moped rentals, ferry tours, theaters, fishing excursions, etc.

The one thing I wanted to do if I ever returned was to camp in Penisula State Park. There seemed to be endless camping sites all nestled in trees along the shore. Very scenic. Our beast of a 5th wheel will not be making the trip. Instead, we're opting to drag out the giant canvas tent and will make do with a decent air bed and just the necessities.

There are many online sites with really good thorough info to get you started. Here's one:

Cold temps closed our daughters school for the second day in a row. Yesterday -6 at the bus stop to cold for the kids. Today 2hr delays (cold bus stop wtf 10 f) followed by busted pipe at her school 8:45am today.

she had 1 full day of school since 12/20!!!

-6F is only -21C, why cancel the buses? I've spent many mornings standing at the bus stop with my kids in temps below that. They don't send them outside for recess when that cold, but the buses still run.

Yep, 18 inches of snow and the windchill was -25 here in Michigan today. Kids are out of school for the third day in a row tomorrow because it's too cold for them to stand out at the bus stop.

I've been planning my vacations as a way to distract myself. 3 more months and we can dewinterize and get moving.

Same weather just east of you in Ontario, third day of school cancelled in a row today. We've had a foot of snow each each since Sunday... I've got nowhere left to put it all LOL

Door county is a popular location. I'll be there in May. Remember the weather by the lake is much cooler and to plan accordingly (ie: no swimming, the water is ice cold even when its 90 degrees outside).

Egg Harbor is a great campground. It books up quick, as do all the campgrounds in that area. There are a lot of gift shops. Its cool to see the bon fires around the lake too. There's a few things you can bike too, it may be worth bring the bikes.

Aqua-land private campground was good in 1990's. I haven't been there in many years though.

Thanks CavemanCharlie for the tips, Door county is the pennisala near Green Bay Wisconson that juts out into lake Micigan. It has a bay side and lake side with a lot of shops, sight seeing ,fishing and restaurants. There is a couple fish boils I would like to make one of them.

Hi, because I'm no where near you I have never heard of Door County and don't even have the slightest idea of what state it is in. Here in MN I usually stay at County Campgrounds. MN has a lot of them, they don't have the amenities of big parks but, are usually quieter and are set in more natural settings. Maybe that is something you could check into for Door County.

I was born in Aurora, my parents lived in Minooka until I was 4. I think I had relatives in Naperville.

If you ever get to this area the Iowa Great Lakes region around Okoboji is a good vacation spot and is only about a 10 hour drive from you. If you ever go there I can give recommendations. Have a nice Day

We had a cold one last night -45C or -49F

It took 3 hours to shovel out the driveway

The kids are loving it though, they have not returned to school yet from the Christmas break. It is looking like they will be home again tomorrow.

Hey it warmed up today....it was around 0! tomorrow is supposed to be around 5. just wait till the temps for Sat.! supposed to be high 30`s!!!

On Door County. we stayed at the Jellystone up there with the kids. I can`t really can`t comment on any other campgrounds. My backup was Wagon Trail Campground on Lake Michigan. It looked really nice, and the reviews seemed good.

Good luck. now back to work for you guys tomorrow!
