2012-2013 Ram axle ratios

I'm in the market for a new to me truck. I am considering the Ram, but I am having trouble finding information on decoding the specific rear end on the trucks I'm looking at.

I know Ford has a sticker on the door jab, don't know if Dodge does, so is there a way to decode which axle ratio the truck has based on the vin?

If my research is correct, a 3.55 & 3.92 are options for a 2WD Hemi engine option and the limited slip is what I'm interested in, so is there a quick down and dirty way to figure out what the truck is equipped with?

Thanks

Thanks for responding so far. I have been using Autotrader as my main source of locating vehicles in my area. Being in the DFW area, there are HUNDREDS of trucks within a hour from my house for me to sort thru.

I was really hoping that I wouldnt have to get too involved with the dealership personnel just yet, but yall have pretty much confirmed what a service advisor told me.

Patperry, Get the serial number and take it to the Dodge dealer and they can run the VIN and print you a build sheet that will tell you which tranny, rearend type and ratio, and every option on the truck. Good Luck Shopping. My 4WD has a 3.73 rear end ratio.

8spd truck will very likely have 3.21 axle. Most trucks with 6 spd will have 3.55. According to what I've read 8 spd with 3.21 is as good as 6 spd with 3.92.

Ram used to put that info on a sticker inside the glove box, but not any more. Most trucks will have the 3:55 as that's the standard ratio. A couple things you might think about on a 12 or 13, is although the two years are almost identical they are worlds apart. Almost every bit of electrical, the frame, the trans(mid year got the 8 speed), the steering(electric now), and many other things were changed for the 13 model year. Get a 13 if you can afford it. In my own experience, it almost pays to buy a new truck, as the prices I found made them close enough I bought new. Good luck

Do you have access to the truck, On the truck's rear end or pumpkin, there is a tag attached to one of the rear end bolts it tells you what the axle ratio is. The Vin number will also give you that number, and on dodge trucks, that info is on a build sheet, is located under the truck's hood, at least mine has one.

This is the link I used to get a build sheet on mine. Usually takes a day or two for them to email it.

I emailed Chrysler directly to get the details on a used truck that I was looking at. They gave me the original build sheet for the truck within about a day.
