Hi All,

Looking at a tow vehicle and considering this 2012. Hoping some of you have this truck or similar and can give me your opinion. Been a good tow vehicle for you? Also, what are you pulling with it?

Thanks!

My biggest gripe with my interior is not the lack of โ€œblingโ€ but the lack of useable storage. It was just not well thought out in this regard. Hell you cant even store anything in the back doors. Would have cost another $2 to form some storage pockets into the doors but some bean counter must have said no.

What I have come to appreciate in the GMT900's is the interior. Not that it is all that nice, but what it misses in bling, it makes up for in durability. At 140K I have had to replace one vent actuator. My 800's while more comfortable and prettier, were not as durable. I like that it ages almost without signs of wear. Only the black wearing off the fan speed button, and a shiny steering wheel is there any indication that it has that many miles. The seats are just as supportive and intact as the day it was delivered. Mechanically this 08 has never missed a day of work. Just a solid rig.

Yeah, noticing the Silverado 2500 and 3500 isn't much different. Rear spring is different changing payload rating? Pulling specs from VIN says 15,800 max fifth wheel/4175 hitch weight. Seems contradictory to their published GVWR. Guessing my camper could be closer to 13,500 loaded with a pin weight of 2500 - 3000. So looking at GVWR the truck doesn't have the payload capacity. If you do the math on weight of the truck compared to axle ratings, plenty of payload. And well within the rating for fifth wheel towing. Crazy. Still think this truck would handle it fine.

Or you'll be fine because it's identical to a 3500 minus a little rear spring rate. (Not as much as the gvw appears to indicate either.)

My 03 2500 CC longbed was 15k for 5er & pulled/stopped our trailer fine. I think the 2012 2500 is 17000 on 5er.

Dont read too much into those 5er ratings. Youโ€™ll be way over payload ratings with a 15klb 5er.

Yup, good truck. Best combo for a diesel that year IMO. Standard used vehicle concerns or inspection notwithstanding.

Thanks for the input. So far sounds like a solid truck. Hope to check it out this weekend. N-trouble, I intentionally left my camper out of it. I want opinions on the truck itself not what everyone thinks it could/should pull. Of course me asking what people are towing with it kinda opened that door anyway. ๐Ÿ˜„ 5th wheel rated at 12,500 lbs loaded is what will be behind it.

I have a 2012 CC dually 4x4. I pull a 35 ft Jayco , no issues. When I was a business owner I have pulled gooseneck trailers with our material to my job site with close to max ball wieght of the gooseneck hitch. Not advocating doing this but sometimes stuff happens
Only trouble had to replace the egr valve also the def sensor gave up, both warranty.

We had a '13 Sierra 2500HD Duramax/Allison. Great tow vehicle, but you are limited with payload on a 3/4-ton truck (even less payload with the diesel and 4WD). We moved up to a 1-ton for our 14K (3,000 pin weight) fifth wheel to be within the rear axle limits on the truck. Loved the Duramax, though.

GM 3/4 and 1-ton trucks share the same axle.
