Can a person run a direct line from the truck box auxiliary tank to the smaller breathing hose close to the filling location and leave a valve open on that hose with out any leaking when the factory tank is full??

I do this with an 06 Ram with no problem.

Have been using the electric pump to fill neck for 11 years. The fuel will sometimes gravity feed to the OEM tank but never to where it flows out the OEM fill cap. Put an inline filter to catch the bulk of the stuff (2 micron).

However if you leave to pump on too long the fuel will run out the OEM fill cap.

I finally put a timer on the pump.

Sorry to post to an older thread, but I have the same need, except I want and easy to remove tank. As I type the truck is full of deer apples.

I have both a manual and electric pump to empty the tank if needed. However does anyone know of a good quick connect fitting, that is dry when disconnected? It should also not be much larger than the diameter of the hose.

Thanks.

Just thinking, why not use a small electric fuel pump with an in cab toggle switch to operate it.Simply pump fuel from the aux tank thru an in line filter directly to the factory fill hose pipe.No having to stop and shut off valves or worry about check valve failure. Just turn the pump on and off from the drivers seat as you watch fuel gauge while driving. Any thoughts? Is this legal?

x2 this is what I have on my truck, works great! I do have a ball valve at the tank, the pump and filter are mounted under the bed and line is "T" into the factory "filler hose".

Sounds like a good setup.Could you explain a little more, why do you need a ball valve at the tank? Will the fuel siphon or drain thru the electric pump when it is not running? or is it just a safety feature to prevent any leakage when not being used for a while?
Thanks Ramp

Ball valve is there for exactly as you posted "to prevent any leakage" the costs of environmental clean up, is high and running commercial plates costs are even higher for a "spill".

This works well for me, the pump will deliver 15 gallons per minute

I think that is ok even if you are running gas and are pumping out of the dip tube on the top of the tank.

On my install I not only wanted to do it as economically as possible but simple.I reasoned that if it worked manually it would also work electrically.Having used it I will likely keep it manual as I don't use it often and its not enough of a bother to change it. I do, however, have an electric pump that would be faily easy to hook up.

Lawn. That is a "gravity flow control valve" isnt it??
It prevents over filling of the truck tank i beleave. I want to know if i can just "T" into the breather or filler hose with out over filling.

Not 100% sure but I don't think so. I think its just a ball valve for turning the fuel on or off. The first time I had this done a few years ago, I opened the fuel tank cap and fuel spit out on me. Last time I ever did that.

If I turn the ball valve off, fuel does not flow at all. I can run the truck's tank all the way down but the auxiliary tank stays full. But if I open it, it slowly fills the tank by gravity alone into the truck's filler tube.

I have never had a leak and rarley shut the valve. I was a sceptic too at first so filled the aux opened the valve, listened to the air escape. When the tank was full the whisle stopped and no leaking.
Since then have never put fuel directly into truck tank. Leave the valve open all the time. I know when aux is empty when gauge starts to drop.
Can this be done on a 2013 Ford??????

On my o6 Ram I have an aux tank in the bed connected to the main tank thru a connection to the main filler hose. The fitting looks like the one linked to by Lawn.I also have an in-line filter between the aux tank and the main tank as well as a shutoff valve. I have read that the filler cap does not ALWAYS hold back when the main tank is full and have never tested it to see if it does. My method of operation is to run the main tank down to 1/8 full, then open the valve to the aux tank and continue to drive for 30 minutes or so and then close the valve. To me this is the KISS method. If you rely on the filler cap to not leak then you have also effectively closed off the filler breather hose(as its full of fuel). As I haven't tried this I can't comment of the effect and, so far, haven't wanted to find out the down side. Chicken, I guess.LOL

In an 06 ram the fact that the aux is higher is not a problem. There is a fluid check valve on the top of the tank that prevents fuel from escaping the truck tank but not air/fumes. Thus if your cap is screwed on properly your valve can be left open all the time.
I installed an in line filter between the two tanks to prefilter all fuel. So i only add fuel through the auxiliary tank.
My question is. Can i do it this way on a 13 Ford??
Or would i have to get the Gravity Flow Controll Valve.

By the way. On the Ram "teeing" in to the smaller breather hose works fine. Fuel just runs down into the truck tank at a slow rate as its a 3/8 line.

Won't the Aux tank in the bed be higher than fill on the trucks tank and gravity fed from the aux wouldn't that be problem? Or I'm not understanding what your saying?
