2014 GMC/Chevy 1500 Max Tow 6.2

Hey all,

After doing a "Build and Price" on the 2014 1500 Max Tow pkg with the 6.2 engine, can't seem to locate any near me (southern NY State). Has anyone actually been able to get their hands on one? Is this truck a special order only? Would love to take a test drive; Are dealers willing to negotiate price on special orders or do you have to pay full list or "No Deal"?

Thanks

I had a 6.2 in my 2012 1500 that I stumbled upon on the lot. In 2 years I havn't seen another one. I now have a 2013 HD 6.0. As expected, the HD is a better towing expierience. The 6.0 however, falls short. Not that it isn't adequate, it's just I was spoiled with the 6.2. Towing the same trailer the 6.2 w/3.42s would run in 5th gear and occasionally drop to 4th on big hills. The HD 6.0 w/3.73s spends more time in 4th than it does in 5th. With the 6.2, I could keep the cruise on going up hills. Something I can't do with the 6.0. The 6.0 also gets 2-3 mpg less than the 6.2 did when not towing.

Just curious, what are torque ratings between the 6.2 and 6.0? I also believe the HD 6.0 is iron block versus aluminum on the 6.2.
All in an say is that my 6.0 with 4:10 axle pulls my 12k fiver just fine.

Exactly right, while the 6.2 is a fun engine to drive it is not a HD engine due to the aluminum block. This is why GM does not put them in the 2500 and 3500 trucks.

If I was towing fairly heavy a lot I would want the cast iron block. I camped next to a 6.2 truck last summer and it was a fine truck though.

The 6.2L makes trucks rockets. In SUV form 0-60 is under 6s. I think my 6.0L is in the high 7s range for comparison which I never find underpowered. Everyone that owns the prior 6.2L loves it. I expect only more praise for the 2014 version.

Keep in mind the 6.2L is available without the max trailering package as well. If you want both, it will be even harder to find.

Nothing wrong with custom ordering to get the exact equipment you want. Transaction price should be the same as if a dealer had on on their lots with the same equipment. Car buying services like TrueCar, Costco, etc offer pretty good programs without the dealer negotiations.

I've considered the 2500HD and haven't ruled it out, but I think I'll wait for the 2015 2500's before I make a decision as I'd like to make the comparison in person. I like the payload capacity of the 2500, but the power output of the 6.2 has a lot of appeal. I have ruled out diesel's because of cost and quirkiness.

I would get the 2500, more room to grow in the future.. May ride a little harsher and drink more fuel BUT when your towing with it you will know you made the right choice. I will never own another .5 ton.

Interesting the little 6.0 can keep up the the larger displacement trucks!

You can negotiate on the special order. Just go to the dealer and build how you want it, and then start negotiating. Most likely you will get down to a certain price, and then you can get whatever rebates are available at the time of delivery.

That is how it worked on the 3500 I just ordered.

I was looking at these trucks in January. I was able to find a good number of them. I also found the max tow with the 5.3. I then decided that I was not going to sell my 2500HD.

As for Don's comment, this was not the case. When GM announced the 6.2 and max tow, they indicated that it would be available in Q4 2013. They were available in Q4.

Jimbee - Some dealers will work with you on a specific order. You can always ask a dealer if they will sell you a special-ordered vehicle at the GM Supplier and Friends price. If they will, you can ask a GM employee for a Friends price certificate.

My bet is GM has done the same thing the Chrysler did with the Eco-Diesel. They put the cart before the horse and are having some issues getting their suppliers up and running.

The day of ture R&D seems to be gone. This is evident by the number of recalls ALL the manufactures are facing right now. Ford just announced a recall for SUV's and trucks. Chrysler is recalling our SUV's to add a shield to protect the brake booster from corrosion. Honda, Toyota and the rest of the imports are no different, recall after recall.

They are out there, but many dealers will not stock one, so you have to look. After having ours for 2 years, they are worth finding, as I think it is 10x better than the ¾t 6.0L which rides rough and drinks fuel like it was cheap......Our dealer had 2 on the lot a couple weeks ago, as the ranchers have discovered this truck and love it.

Have you considered going with a 2500 HD 6.0 gasser?
