Speak for yourself.

Too much attention is paid to engine rpm. 3-4k and people feel their engine is over worked and wont last. This could not be further from the truth.

I tow at the speed I feel comfortable with, and I never, ever attempt to manage engine rpm. Engine rpm is not my prioty...nor my concern. Exactly how TFL does their testing.

As a point of reference, I made that run at the speed limit with 4500 lbs TT. Never broke 2500 rpm. I do believe my current trailer would require 3000rpm.

There is no engine in any truck I've seen TFL test that runs 2,000RPM up the IG. Even the big diesel engines are even running 3,000+ RPM going up that long, steep grade.

Why? Because they run a real performance test. They attempt to run at the speed limit over the entire run, use tow haul mode when available, hold full throttle the entire run if needed, and almost NEVER interfere with the trucks systems. They run hard and let the truck do all the "thinking" as designed.

I thought the run was cool to see. A lower power turbo motor, and a higher power naturally aspirated engine. Both at full power on an incline, at high altitude. All this proved was the turbo engine lost less power at altitude, and the big V8 had only enough loss to then equal the turbo motor power output. This is not one bit surprising.

Cadillac vs Ford....apples and oranges.

Of course they leave out the part that you could buy 2 F-150's for what an Escalade costs.....in which case each Ford would be towing half of the weight and they would both beat the Caddy up the hill!

Escalade should be quicker as it has a better power to weight ratio and an 8 speed transmission. The numbers definitely favor the Escalade.

Throw in the new 385 Hp 5.0L in the F150 and the gap will shorten especially since this is all high rpm towing/racing.

Both interesting and funny. I wonder what the F150 would have done with a box behind it?
