So was this an actual testing event where they compared capabilities or was it just based on the testers opinions? If there were actual tests in this challenge then I would like to see the results, but if it was just an opinion challenge the I don't need to read any further because it holds no merit.

I do agree that the OP's link is pretty lame.

They use many actual tests and mix in opinion.

The link (and story) lacks detail because they show the tests and results on a TV show that comes out weeks after the web blog and they don't want to give it all away before the TV show comes out.

I find it amazing that we have a dozen or so of these contests by various groups and they all come up with different winners. In return we hear ads that say Ram can tow the most, Ford is now " North American Truck of the year" and now that ad from Chevy with the three crates.
Congrats to everyone for being the best :W

Truth!!

I'm going to name the 2016 Ram 3500 the ''Groeneveld Truck of the year winner'' Hopefully Ram will start using it in ads. Groeneveld is my last name 🙂

Shiner,
What's your take on the Texas Writers Association? They just named the Nissan/Cummins as their top pick.

I do agree that the OP's link is pretty lame.

Most of these awards are just about pointless in my book no matter who wins them, and the Texas auto writers is no different. Without any factual testing data to backup why they chose what they did then it is as useless as tits on a bull. If they want me to take their word for it on which is the best in their opinion then they will be waiting forever for that because it will never happen.

I personally think there should never be a total winner when it comes to trucks reviews or comparisons. I think they should be tested and then the consumer can decide which is best for them. I beleive trucks should be tested in different classes based on their manufacturer rated capabilities. For example, all the base engines 1/2 ton trucks should be in a 6,000 lbs towing class, the medium engine 1/2 tons should be in an 8,000 lbs towing class, the towing engine 1/2 tons should be in the 10,000 lbs towing class, the gaser 3/4 ton should be in the 12,000 lbs towing class, the diesel 3/4 ton should be in the 14,000 towing class, and so on. Test each truck accordingly with and without the load in their class with all the data like 0-60 mph, 60-0 mph, 20-60 mph, fuel economy, gradability both up and down a long hill, and so on. Then give us the information and we can decide what is best for us. Instead we get these useless titles and awards that mean nothing to the average user like the "best in class" **** that some of these manufacturers like to tout.

Some automotive sources do have a pretty good standardized test matrix and report the actual data but is also mixed with some subjective opinions that you have to filter out.

Interesting setup. It's pretty light and being that low to the ground would probably help with fuel economy, although it looks like it would require a pretty low truck with a flat bed to hitch up to it.

According to the manufacturer of those RV's, the weight of the 26 footer is about 2,800 kg which is about 6,800 lbs, and the max tow rating of that Ranger is 3,500 kg which is 7,700 lbs.

Go ED!!!! I think FCM has a winner with this truck.

I was recently fueling my wonderful Pentastar Van and the pump next to me had an ED hitched to a smaller Fifth wheel...it was maybe 24-26 ft. Looked like a great combo.

Thanks!

Jeremiah

What you see in Australia, a Global Pickup towing a 26ft 5ver not a problem

Interesting setup. It's pretty light and being that low to the ground would probably help with fuel economy, although it looks like it would require a pretty low truck with a flat bed to hitch up to it.

Sadly the Manufacturer Southen Cross Caravans, built a great suspension for Off Road use, but no more. The owner a 70 yr old found the costs were too great and had to shut it down. These weigh roughly 8,000lb for a 26ft unit. In this case pulled by the Ranger., cruising is 60-65mph, fuel economy is pretty good

Many Canadians love diesel 'cause of the better mileage and our much higher fuel prices. VW TDIs seem much more common up here (dunno about the future though!!).

Bet the EcoD's towing mileage was a big influence on the judges. The runner up was also a diesel, the GMC Canyon.

That and towing ability, great attributes of diesels
