anutami: How did you end up sealing that 3" hole?

The old thread got closed but I was wondering what you did to cover that 3" hole left when you removed the tv antenna. I think I'll be in the same boat so was hoping to see your solution.

thanks.

I had the same issue, I deleted the hole by using a 3-3/8" hole saw bit and cutting out a round hockey puck from a 2x4 then stuffed that into the hole (it was a tight fit) and then from the inside I put a metal bracket on it and attached it to the ceiling (hole was in a cabinet). I was in the process of redoing my roof at the time so new roofing went over the patched hole, but if I was covering the hole I would do a square patch of roofing and seal it up really good.

My antenna is the most useless thing on the roof. I've got the old school bat-wing antenna.

Thanks Nolan,

I couldn't remember who it was until my memory was jogged by the article about you on Mello Mike's site. Really enjoyed that, I'd like to see some of that country someday, so different than up here.

Its not the prettiest thing in the world, but I had to get something quick because I was not expecting to have such a large hole there.

a quick trip ACE Hardware and I got an electrical cover plate. I drilled 2 additional holes in the plate when mounting. I also used some butyal tape around the edge and where the screws went through

and pretty much used an entire tube of dicor (the small wire going through is the cell extender antenna I added a later date)

Thanks for that, that's exactly the reason I'm thinking of removing it is so that I can mount a panel. I'm actually hoping to run the wires down the hole but not sure if that will work with it being below the panel. I'd obviously need some slack so that I could lift the panel if necessary, maybe just loop the wires and tie with a zip tie until I need to lift the panel.

I removed mine because where I camp I never get reception with it anyway and I needed roof space for another solar panel. I cut a small aluminum plate using the template in the manual from the antenna. Probably overkill but I wasn't sure what the roof looked like under the antenna until I took it off and I wanted to have the plate ready to cover any and all holes before I did since my camper sits outside. I mounted an F-connector in the plate and used that to connect to the Dish Tailgater I now have mounted on my ladder.
