Any 13' Ram DEF MPG yet?

Vanished

Just stopped by dealer and checked out a new'13 Ram 2500 4x4 Laramie Diesel and was wondering if anyone got theirs yet? How are the MPG's compared to the last few years? Any other thoughts?

Thanks!

PS - Yes I still want a 5th wheel, No I still can't pull one with my Power Wagon and recent circumstances are going to most likely require me to buy a new camper this week... So decisions, decisions... TT or 5th wheel, but the 5th will require a truck to go with it! ๐Ÿ™‚

As far as I can tell it's straight dino oil 15W-40....This truck does have the 15,000 mile oil change interval..States if you use a synthetic oil, make sure it meets Cummins specs.

That's great mileage. I suspect your 2500 is pretty close to 1k lbs lighter than NC's dually. You have the 3.42 axles correct? Not to mention the extra weight but Jim also got the 4.10's. I know I'm lucky to get 20 driving with a egg under my right foot. Glad to see these trucks have over come the new EPA standards and got the MPG back up there.

700 mile round trip driving 70-75 mph. Going EVIC indicated 19.8 mpg. Coming back EVIC indicated 22 mpg. Calculated was 19.6 mpg for entire trip. Some pretty good headwinds going is the only reason I can think of for the difference on mpg. Truck had 875 miles when the trip began.

I was hoping it would look clean. Makes me wonder if you could use the non LE oil?

Don't know...Seeing as how I get free oil changes for 3 yrs, guess I'll use what they give me:).....oh, last time I fueled up, it was a 20% blend of Bio-Diesel..(can go up to 20% with the 13'...the 12 stated no higher than 5%)...I'm pretty sure I remember that to be correct, if someone can verify...but the 13' can take up to 20% bio diesel.

Jim,

Sounds like mileage is doing well and will improve!

Have you looked at your oil to see if it is black or ?????

The 13 I looked at in Pahrump did not have many miles but the oil was as clear as out of the bottle.

Meant to check that also...Will do it at lunchtime...get back to you on that.....

As far as DEF mpg report....I've got 938 miles on my truck since last fill up, driving back and forth to work, driving around town on my day's off, according to the EVIC, (which has been within a tenth of correct) is showing 16.3 mpg...which, doing the exact same driving would have put the 10 or 12 trucks in the low 14's to upper 13', which would have been some city traffic driving and more than several stops and starts just like in the 13'....Truck is showing 3/4's of a tank of DEF left(if accurate) after a little over 938 miles on the truck....

Not sure what you mean by " torque management" but clearly torque is different with the three different diesel engine tranmissions , 4 if you count the Hemi. OBTW how many new dually Hemi's will be out there for sell till the year 2020 :B That's got to leave a mark Fred!

With the automatics they do not give you full hp/torque at all times! The computer controls how much power is going thru the drivetrain. The power on a stick is full power ALL THE TIME!

This is how they keep from tearing up everything down stream of the engine.

Full tune requires the Aisian 6 speed and is 385 HP. Chrysler 68RFE transmission must not be able to handle the HP thus it has the lower tuned engine. Heck the hand shaker is only tuned to 660 TQ, IIRC. Yes that is 190 Foot pounds lower just so you can roll the gears :M

Maybe so but no torque management!

Not when you have almost 400 HP and over 800 ft/lbs of torque and a 6 speed tranny on tap. :B

I thought it was 350 HP???
