Applying WAX to TT

Hello,

I'd like to hear some ideas on HOW you applied wax to your TT??

I've heard others using a sponge mop with a Microfiber cloth wrapped around it..........

Anything will be better than up and down off a step ladder over and over again!!! 🙂

Probably will go with the Meguiar's M5616 Marine/RV Pure Wax

I use the karate kid method.

Wax on.

Wax off.

So...it seems I'm the only one that uses a (soft) bristle brush and a very diluted simple green to scrub all the seems, edges and trim. After that I use a Fiberglass RV & Boat wash (by hand) from the top to the bottom. It's easy to find possible issues by doing it this way not to mention it keeps the trailer looking brand new. On occasion meguires cleaner wax helps to keep the gloss and a little 303 doesn't hurt either. OCD maybe, But....WTH

I never got that deep into it. I bought mine new in 2010 and just use regular ole Kit on it. The hardest part for me is applying it. I wax it 2 times a year. Other than the ladder part, it has been waxed so much that buffing it off is easier than applying the wax. I also go right over the decals with it. So far as not waxing fiberglass, do they tell Vette owners the same thing? And about brutal summer sun, I live in Baton Rouge, La.

I stopped using hand applied wax. I use Camco's RV wash and wax and then I spray on 303 from a spray bottle (used sparingly). So easy and it works and looks even better than when I did the tedious hand waxing. Another big plus is the 303 spray goes right on the decals also along with the fiberglass gel coat. My TT looks brand new with no bugs on the front end which in Minnesota is a feat in itself!

I've always used the Meguiar's RV / Boat cleaner wax 50. No good way to do it other than an buffer to apply and remove. Once done though it washes so easy and looks brand new. It's worth the effort. If you need to hire someone to do it for you. it's at least a three day job by yourself and a lot of up & down.

My opinion is, to put it simply:

The purpose of:

1. washing with soap is to make it clean
2. polishing with a cleaner is to remove oxidation and other surface impurities, and to make the surface smooth
3. waxing is to provide a protective coating

I have washed my travel trailer three times now and it came out fine. Very little water spots (and I have well water) and it looks like I have waxed it. My trailer is fiberglass sided and a newer trailer. I have always waxed my trailers every year but now I use Dawn Dish soap original. In fact I just came in from washing it and it looks great !! I know waxing it would be better but this works for me.

Using dish soap removes any protective finishes (wax) that was on the trailer... You should only use automotive soaps.

I swear when I bought my new trailer from Camping World, which has a fiberglass body, they told me never to wax it. Has anyone else heard this about fiberglass trailers? I like mine to look pretty, but don't want to ruin the finish.

How do you (or do you) wax around the vinyl graphics? My owners manual (Dutchmen Kodiak) says to not wax the vinyl graphics.
Thanks,
Bill

I use automotive cleaner/wax, apply and buff with a rotary buffer. The same buffer I use to detail my trucks and cars. If using a true rotary buffer, you would do well to practice first on something not important though, as using a power buffer takes a little learning.
I also have a so called random orbital buffer, but to be honest, while it's true it's pretty much foolproof to use, it's also not much more than glorified hand buffing with a rag. Opinion only on that....others will say their random orbital is great.
Some folks say you should not wax over the decals, but I do, and so far they are fine. I am "gentle" over them though.

FK1000p lasts a while.
I would not use Nufinish on my cars, but it does last a long time so I have on my TT.
Something synthetic like HD Speed, Klass High Gloss Sealant, Duragloss 105 are in the 1-yr range. Something like Carpro CQuartz is 2+ years.

If UV protection is your concern, 303 Aerospace Protectant is what you want. I buy it by the gallon and use it on everything outside my TT. Sides, tires, seals, etc.

I've got a gallon of this liquid wax--Parfe I'm going to try. I put some on the snowblower and results were very good, no sticking.

Thanks so much for the great replies. I have already done the washing, scrubbing with bar keepers friend and wipe down with TSP thinking about using zep.

After further research, I decided against it because of the lack of UV protection.

What is the RV paste wax you've been using?? What's different about it vs the McGuire's link I posted originally??
