Came out of restaurant today , punched the door fob , battery in fob was dead . I could have unlocked with key but next door was Auto Zone , replaced battery , all fine ! My question is if fob battery was 100 % dead would my 2014 Ram 2500 CTD have started , does the fob have to have juice for motor to run ?

Can’t say about your truck, but the keyless entry system on my BMW X5 works with a dead fib battery. Both the door lock and the ignition use near field chips, so if the car senses the key within 5 feet of the door, it will unlock when you touch the handle, and as long as the key is inside the car, the engine will start and run. Of course, the fob buttons require the battery to work.

I pretty sure the owners manual has the procedure for a dead fob battery.

Are you saying the truck will sense the presence of the fob even if it's battery is dead? Will keyless entry work with a dead fob battery?

Yes, it will start because it uses RFIF technology.
No it wont remotely open the doors because it needs the battery for that function.

Don't need the fob, just a key and a good battery IN THE TRUCK!

Yes, it would still run. Does not need fob for engine to run.
