Blackwater disposal problem

I have a travel trailer and bought the external large capacity portable tank. Problem is I went to drain the black water and was unable to tell how full the tank was. Ended up filling it all the way including the disposal hose. Anyone have any ideas on how to clear the system without spilling blackwater all over the place? I could probably call a local septic company, but wanted to know if there was a handy trick for doing this in case we end up off-grid and doing the same thing again.

Yeah, I completely screwed up with not using the autostop feature correctly. We did the Thetford Smart Tote

I think I'm going to have to go with Old-Biscuit's advice and just deal with it.

Close black tank drain valve
Close drain valve on tote

Place a large square/rectangular container under end of drain line when hose connects (Cheap plastic storage container with 6" sides)

Wear old clothes cause yo are gonna get some on you

QUICKLY disconnect sewer hose at drain line and then HOLD IT UP HIGH
Slowly lower it and drain the hose into that square/rectangular container

Container should hold all of the hose contents so tote can be moved/dumped
Then dump container and flush/rinse it out

Sounds like the voice of experience;)

Many of the blue totes have a gauge as an accessory. Stop filling when it reaches 3/4.
What kind of portable tank did you buy?

May not help at this point but my buddy bought a tote tank thingy with more capacity than his black tank so this wouldn't happen.
