Brake Dust

Why would one wheel be frequently covered with brake dust and the other's not?

Thanks everyone. It could be grease and I'll be calling the dealer Monday. It will be great to be educated when I talk to them.

Are you positive that it is dust and not grease from a defective/blown seal?

On our last TT purchased new, after complaining about bad brakes for over a year, they finally found cosmoline on the brake components that should have been removed at the factory. It left a black mess on the rims. They kept saying it was the brake controller but it definitely wasn't.

How old is your TT? Have you ever had the brakes checked and bearings repacked? If a new TT, then just let the dealer fix it. It does sound like dust and the brakes need adjusting. If it were me, I'd want the drums pulled and everything inspected.

I have never seen brake dust on a drum setup.

What kind of TT do you have?

Wow, are you lucky or something. Every vehicle I've owned, drum or disc brakes, leaves brake dust of varying amounts, especially my travel trailers.

OP...as others have noted, they may be adjusted too tight. I also had a problem once with ONE wheel's shoes not releasing completely. Could also be exceptionally cheap brake shoes.

Me too, always brake dust on rims after a long trip, if one wheel has more than the others it's time to check the brakes.

Adjusted too tight
Others not adjusted enough

Jack up each wheel and adjust brakes (tighten until wheel will not move then back off adjustment until wheel turns with slight drag)
Is it time for your medication or mine?
