When charging battery with a battery charger do I need to disconnect

1) No disconnect needed. Although I recommend plugging the portable into the generator first to get it started.

2) Generally the battery switch needs to be on to get a charge from the on board converter. Most modern converters will power the RV fine without a battery. Lead-acid batteries prefer to be 100% charged and held at 100% charge for longer life.

No. You can leave the batteries connected even while using a separate battery charger. Some appliances will only work while the batteries are connected.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I was wondering the same thing also, plus my primetime tracer has a battery disconnect switch/button, if I have this turned off, it shuts off battery power to the camper, will the battery charge with this switch off? or will it have to be on? and will the shore power run everything with that battery switch turned off? I guess what im asking is what is the benefit of having the battery turned on, while using shore power?? and im sorry once again to hijack..please answer his question first.....
