Commercial vehicle insurance won't cover me hauling TT.help!

I own a landscaping company. My truck is under the commercial policy. I haul landscape trailers, plow snow, and haul tools and what not. The policy will not cover my truck if I haul a TT with it...which sucks because I just put a deposit down on a TT. I figured I might have to jump through some hoops, maybe modify a policy or what not but did not expect to get the "we can't do it" answer.

Anybody in a similar situation have an answer to my problems?

I have been with The Hartford for decades and have been very happy. Also landscaping. I don't know what their latest policies are... from what I can tell, I have a pretty good deal since I have been with them for so long (and so few claims).

Good job dolbsss in getting the situation straightened out and lower insurance bill!

Its standard for commercial auto insurance not to insure for private use such as vacations, I have a same policy on my work vans but my private truck I have regular insurance.

Its normal pratice where ever you insure under commercial

Register the TT for business use......
Save money on accommodations when you are on holidays... oops I mean when you need the TT to stay in when you do out of town work projects.

Be very careful using a commercially covered truck on personal business. You might find yourself without any insurance.
Check your policy carefully for disclaimers and exclusions.
It might be the simplest way to get a policy to cover TT and TV for specific use to avoid any issues.
A good agent can navigate through those waters. Just be vigilant and read everything.

they told me no coverage for personal use other than as just a vehicle meaning I can't tow anything not related to business. No worries though, called a few companies until I found one that would cover me and the switch will actually save me over $50/month per commercial vehicle so this has basically been a blessing in disguise. My insurance agent has always been a douche as well. Guy is loaded with business and it always seems like I'm hassling him when I have questions.

Good for you, hope everything goes well.

Just call Good Sam and buy an insurance policy that will cover both your truck and trailer. You might not need your current commercial policy.

ding ding we have a winner. Switching my commercial auto to them and saving over $50/month for the same coverage I previously had with Nationwide. I called them right after I read your response.

I'd suggest you speak with an insurance broker as opposed to the insurance co.'s agent.
Since you have commercial plates attached to a business you really don't want to lose the advantages of that set up.

trust me, that was never an option. I knew I'd find a solution and I did....thanks

interesting...keep current policy and add a rider? I was going to shop RV insurance anyway. They'll do this?

I am guessing but I think you could keep your current insurance on the truck and just buy an insurance policy for your RV from Good Sam. I would also add the Good Sam Emergency Road Side Service so that Good Sam would tow both your truck and trailer at the same time
