Cummins Water Pump

Finally. I got a call from my service advisor letting me know they actually have the new style pump and set me up for tomorrow. I haven’t heard anything from FCA though. I absolutely love my truck, but slightly less than thrilled with FCA and how this recall has been handled and drug out. I received my initial recall notice end of September and here it is mid March. I hope to never need them again.

Take it easy guys. It’s all too easy to expect a new vehicle, TV , toaster etc to be PERFECT, but if some of you can remember back to when you worked, built things, managed people, flipped burgers, whatever your career was, can you say you were PERFECT?
Yeah , you don’t have to answer that one publicly.......
Now, quit being 70 year old snowflakes that expect instant gratification.
I get that it’s annoying, but seriously, if you can buy a $40-70k new pickup, a $100 water pump is not a big deal. If it’s that disconcerting to you, replace it.

If this was something expensive, difficult to repair or otherwise significant, I could see being more upset over it.
Wife’s car, found out it had a cooling fan assembly recall while I was researching the part number to replace it. My options were spend $180 and go get the part and replace it that afternoon, or spend literally 8 or more hours of my life and the other associated hassles to get it fixed “free.” Car was running again by beer:30.
Lol. Cheers

So what should they do??? Not tell you anything then one day get a call and say go to your Dealer????

Wow what an inconvenience!

So 6 months waiting for them to get parts in to fix a vehicle that could leave you stranded on the side of the road like what happened to IdaD is ok with you? Well, it’s not acceptable to me. Yes, I could have made other arrangements and fixed myself and submitted to FCA for reimbursement. But I wanted it fixed by them as that’s one reason I bought a new truck with a warranty. And next time just keep your smart a&& comments to yourself if you don’t have anything worth adding.

GM, six months to get a part that otherwise leaves you with no trailer brakes.

Well, they sent me a notice that I may have a faulty water pump , but no parts available yet.

About 2 weeks or so ago, got the final notice , need to make an appointment for mine, mine appears to be the concentric, no vent hole.

Is there something they should of done differently, to make you more thrilled ? You know instant pudding takes time, what would have been an acceptable time frame for you.

If you have the OMP, no replacement. If you have a Concentric with vent hole no replacement.

Tommy boy could get this parts supply chain issue straightened out!

But are he and Richard going to drive all over the US in a GTO convertible to correct the problems? :S

I got a letter last week telling me a solution was available. I called my local dealer and they've ordered the parts and will make an appointment with me when it arrives.

Go to "Official Mopar Site Recalls" put in your Vin # and you will see everything that has been done and yet to be.

They ONLY replace the pumps that look like mine. Notice the shaft is flush to end of pulley. If yours stick past they will NOT replace it. Also mine has a rough casting on the tapered end of the pulley. the "GOOD" one has a ring around the tapered end that is machined smooth and has letters cast into the tapered edge.

Any chance you’ve got a picture of the “good” one too?

Genos garage has new style Cummins brand pumps for $49.95, idk why they’re so cheap, and gates pumps for $68. Not sure why one would even wait to do it.
I can’t drive to the dealer and back twice with 2 vehicles for that much. Not to mention the time spent dicking around with the dealer.
$50 and an hour in the driveway = fixed.
Worst cast $160 in the driveway = fixed. Still better than the dealer option imo.
Don’t trip over dollars to pick up cents.

Fish is correct, they are only letting dealers have them 7-10 at a time. The best thing you can do is schedule your truck to be repaired a month in advance so that they can save a water pump for you when they get them in. Otherwise you are just waiting until they have extra. That is how I got mine done so quickly.

I haven't gotten any sort of notice yet. I'm not too worried with only 8000 miles on my (second) water pump but I'll be glad to get it checked off the list when I can.
