Never had either of those scenarios happen. Those big trucks are usually keeping our speed down to the point I don't need any more power than I have with the 5.4L SD. Not a problem.

Sweat on brow? From what? Pushing the skinny pedal? You really need to get back in shape!:B
Ah the roar of a gas V8 at 4200rpm! I don't even know where the repair shop is at our Ford dealership.

If you don't mind slowing down on the mountain passes then get the gas motor. I did that for many years.
I prefer my diesel because I know it has the power to get me out of almost any situation. I tend to stay at 60 mph but have also pushed it to 75mph through mountain passes when I had to get back from a long weekend. I don't know if I would buy a newer diesel with all the pollution crap.

I could not afford new, and could not afford any good shape older diesels, so I ended up getting a 1996 GMC K2500 extra cab, long box 4x4 with a Vortec 454/7.4 litre.
Got the dealer down to 5200CDN it had 219.000Km when I got it almost three years ago, and so far I have used it to pull a 1999 22 foot fifth wheel and now it has one trip pulling a 2004 24.5 foot Fifth wheel, so far it has been good, but still not sure how much I should push it on hills.
Always feel funny when I have it reving or going into passing gear on hills.
