Are there any discounts for Fort Wilderness from AAA or Good Sam? Getting ready to book just the campground. Done Disney now we want to spend our time just in the surrounding areas.

Thanks.

I would assume if you are staying at FW, you are touring WDW. Otherwise, I certainly would pick another CG somewhere else outside of that mayhem.

You can get a 20% discount from AAA during value season, but you need to book at AAA. I tried to book at WDW's travel agency, and they wouldn't give me the discount, but I got it by going through AAA. Full hookup sites are $52 and $56 (plus tax) with the discount, preferred and premium sites a few dollars higher.

Considering the great values in RV park and campground opportunities north of Orlando, I would not pay the price premium (even discounted) for the Fort Wilderness experience, for the purpose of exploring other parts of Florida. Two issues:

1. Fort Wilderness price premium is paying for easy, and extended time, access to the Disney properties.

2. Traffic is a real pain getting out of WDW, or the Orlando area generally, to other interesting parts of Florida, even central Florida. Being based at Fort Wilderness could easily cost you an hour or more per day extra time for exploring places like the space center, Cocoa Beach, the Nature Coast, or the Tampa area. It would be many miles of unnecessary travel for further daily destinations, like most of the Atlantic coast, or Sarasota/Fort Myers.

I really do like Fort Wilderness, but it is not the only nice place in Florida to park a RV, so it can be worthwhile to figure out just what are these other places you want to visit, and investigate the RV parks and campgrounds more local to those destinations.

If you like history, the wife and I stayed in St Augustine at the end of May. We really enjoyed the trip. We stayed at the St Augustine Beach KOA. They have a shuttle bus that runs every hour and will take you downtown, which is only about 3 miles away. It is really the best way to do it as parking is a premium and you pay for it. There really is a lot to do if you so choose

Were going to Disney in two weeks so we'll be doing that long drive. I found out you cant drive thru the harbor tunnel so we'll have to go around it adding about an hour or so to the trip. my only problem is having to stop for gas so much and when stopping to rest there is no ac.....Im concidering getting a cheap genny to run on our stops to power the ac for a little while. im sure a 3000 watt will do even if it trips the fuse a few times it will still keep us from sweating while we sleep for an hour or so...

Phil: I scoured the Web and found THIS. Not a Disney website, but it states AAA members are eligible for a 20% discount on campsite reservations during "value season" (Aug. 4th thru Oct. 10th). Mention your AAA membership when making reservations. Only other discount opportunity I found is available to annual pass holders. Hope this helps.

There are lots of natural springs to the north of there. Ginni Springs or Ichetucknee
Space Center, St Augustine to the east. Nice beaches all the way down the east coast
Tampa to the west Busch Gardens and Gulf beaches to the north and south of Tampa.
