Quick question. We are buying the shamrock 21dk . Dry weight about 3800.
Has a pretty heavy tonque weight. The salesman is saying we only need the 2 pt. But I wanted to talk it over with you guys first. 🙂
Do we need the 4 pt equalizer or 2pt? We are pulling with a 2008 Tahoe.
Thanks

Equal-z-er only offers a 4-pt system. Many people including RV salesmen call every WDH an equalizer or equalizing hitch.

3800 pounds dry will be 4500-5000 pounds loaded. 600 pounds of TW is 12% of 6000 pounds. I'd go for 1000 pound bars. Even the Eq site's "Hitch Sizes" recommendation with 5000 pound gross weight/600 pound TW recommend the 1000 pound bars. I read somewhere the EQ 1000 pound bars are designed for TW of 400-1000 pounds.

$450 shipped.

FWIW, my TT dry TW was about 500 pounds. I have been very pleased with my 1200 pound bar choice for 4 towing seasons.

OP. Can you get clarification on the brand and model of 2 point hitch? If it's the E2 then it's a pretty good hitch.

Thanks!

With a dry weight of 3800, you may want a 6/6k, try to find the GVWR of the TT

Hmmmmm .... does that mean that the people who purchased Equal-i-zer spent their money imprudently or worse ....?

The only problem with the equalizer brand is they have a 600# then a 1000# hitch(tongue). One may be a bit light the other May be a bit too much.

keep in mind, that if in the future you decide to upgrade to a larger trailer, you might need the 4-point. If the price difference isn't huge, i would go ahead and get the 4-point.

You can get buy with the 2 pt setup, which is basically the old EZ Lift style hitch. The true Equilizer is 4 pt and offers better sway control. On a trailer that small, the 2 pt is fine IMO.

If you get an Equal-i-zer weight distributing hitch it will be a 4-point. There is no 2-point Equal-i-zer. See here.
