Enclosed Trailers

I'm not sure if the TC forum is the right place for this but I see a number of guys tow enclosed trailers behind their T/C's so......

What have y'all done for more more fresh/grey water capabilities using the enclosed trailer?

I was thinking of throwing a fresh and grey tank under the trailer between the frame rails...maybe another 20-gallons each. I haven't had time to get under there and see if it can be done and if its worth the effort.

Thoughts?

Having extra domestic water, gray and black water capacity and LP, along with other fuel, on a trailer is a good idea. T/C will only hold so much weight. Sooner or later it is more efficient to put the added weight on a trailer.

I have a small 5th wheel trailer that had a tree drop on it. It wasted the trailer, with no damage to the trailer frame. It is my intent to convert it to a tongue dragger flat bed car trailer, and leave the holding tanks in it. The tanks are mounted over the two axles, and still have the dump valves. It is only 12 feet (without tongue). I will probably add another two feet, and probably beef-up the frame a little also. Another one of these days projects.

In times past, I went through the drama of water cans and related. If I was as active boondocking/wheeling as I once was The tanks on the trailer project would move up in priority. I think it is a great idea, especially over the axles.

Only because i don't have a demand for such,i simply use some 6 gal. jugs once i get to a site. I fill them once i arrive and basically just store the water inside the trailer until i need it . I use a 12v. bildge pump to pump it into the tc .

I use a 1000 lb WDH on the trailer with a 21" extension and fill the water just before we boon dock so we are not carrying it for more than 50 miles. I never weighed the tongue with the 700 lbs of water on board, but usually the trailer TW adds 250 lbs to front axle and 250 lbs to the rear with the amount of tension I have set. I easily have 200 lbs of fuel and LPG in the rear of the trailer and keep the motor weights of the off road toys on or behind the axle so my TW is usually close to 10% of the trailer weight before I add water.

Wow! you don't have any tongue weight issues with that much water up front?

I have a 32 gallon rolling grey tank and two 42 gallon fresh water tanks in the nose of my trailer. When the 42 gallon fresh tank in the TC gets low, I have a Harbor Freight transfer pump that can refill it. The transfer pump is not an on demand system, but it is powerful enough to wash our off road vehicles before returning them to the trailer. If the 30 gallon gray tank fills, I dump it into the rolling tank. We try to shower outside (hot and cold available) to keep our gray water tank for sink use and only worry about the black tank level. In freezing weather we do not carry water in the trailer, so I have not insulated the tanks or worried about a heat source.

Our gen set is LPG powered through the two 30# bottles in the TC. We carry extra bottles in the trailer if we're in a hot area and need to run the air conditioning for the dogs.
