Fall Maintenance

As much as I absolutely HATE to say goodbye to camping for the long Winter, getting the TT ready for cold weather eventually has to be done. Monday is my day off so this past Monday I got my compressor and blew out the water pipes and then took the TT down to my local RV shop for them to do the rest. My checklist was as follows:

  • Check roof
  • Re-pack wheel bearings
  • Check brakes
  • Clean and lube slide
  • Replace exterior rubber gasket around bedroom door (it fell off this past Summer during one of our travels)

When I get it back I will put RV anti-freeze in all the pea traps and in the black tank, and then put on my wheel covers and cover my power jack for the Winter.

The trees here in Easter Oregon have only just begun to lose their leaves and I'm already longing for Spring! 🙂

One trip this weekend and one over the Halloween weekend - IF TWC cooperates. Then that's it for us. Agree that it's a bummer, but one of those things we dread like crazy, but then when it's off the to-do list it's a good feeling. Before we know it the Grapefruit League schedule will be released and I'll be busy getting the FL trip together. We've had a really good year, 2 big trips - our regular one to FL and an awesome "bucket list" trip to CO to take the Silverton Train from Durango to Silverton. Toss in a few nearby trips and it's been great. Enjoy the wonderful fall camping y'all....the best time in our opinion.

Sadly, we made our last trip last weekend. I'd try to go one more time, but weekends are booked for us into November. Did the winterizing upon returning. I'll empty it out of anything food related give it a good cleaning and wash then check the roof before covering. I do the bearings and brake check in the spring.

We're getting one more trip in hopefully next week before the freezing temps get here. It's already been down to about 40 degrees a couple nights.

I know the feeling. While I am here at work today the wife is getting the TT unloaded and cleaned up for the winter. After work I get to put in the pink stuff. What a depressing time.

I have one more trip planned for Wisconsin in early November, then maybe a trip to southern Indiana.

My DW and I are not adversed to dry camping when it is cold, but driving on snow and ice is the pits. We should have the TT ready for dry dock before the serious snows begin.

I will empty the Grey and Black tanks except for a few gallons and blow the water lines, pump the anti-freeze, empty the pantry and other mouse attractants. I also bring the battery in for the winter.
Twenty six foot 2010 Dutchmen Lite pulled with a 2011 EcoBoost F-150 4x4.

Just right for Grandpa, Grandma and the dog.

We have been doing some fall maintenance also, but no winterizing for us as we already south for the winter! some touch up painting on the TT under carriage, lubing, and gutter cleaning.

Well Paul, pretty much the same as our winter, spring, and summer checklists.

1. Refer stocked? Check!
2. Hitched up? Check!
3. Let's go!!!:B

I'll give you this. You do have a beautiful state and we've been to McCall many times when we lived in Idaho. Oregon is a state we love to visit between early May and late September. You can keep the other months all to yourselves.:W

Happy camping!!! See y'all down the road!!!:)
