Fantastic fan KAPUT need some info

Went out to cleanup AF 1150 TC today and the fantastic fan not working. It seems like a simple fix which usually turns out to be a nightmare. Any one out there that can walk me thru it or give some tips would be appreciated.

A few simple question first.. do you need access to the outside roof (have maxi cover on it now) or can it be done just from the interior?

Cannot find the fuse for it any where (any hints where it might be?)

Any ideas for the best place to get one?

Wiring simple ?

This one? This is the only fusible link (thermal fuse)I recall, on the speed controller.

When mine quit working, I discovered that there was a blown fusible link in the fantastic fan wiring. To troubleshoot, you need to have some skills testing the voltage with a voltmeter .... or a simple light would work.

I was researching where to find this replacement part and called the company. They knew right away what I needed and sent me one for free.

I'd take a couple pics, but the camper is in storage right now.

Does your fan have a 3 position switch for speed or a knob that controls the speed?

If it is the latter it is a Surflo fan. It has no fuse... The Fantastic fan does and is accessible from inside the camper and is part of the fan housing with the switches.

Need to see if 12 vdc is avail to the fan. The motor could have shorted out and blew the fuse but unlikely. Need to check your 12 vdc fuse panels for a blown fuse if there is no 12vdc at the switches.

The picture of the FF is a newer one (mine is in a 2005 AF 1150)mine has the on/off knob with the speed control in one corner next to the rocker switch for intake or exhaust and the vent knob diagonally on the other side... no other controls.

Completely baffled ready to give up and find a shop ....that can fix it...not much confidrnce in that outcome!!!

Ours is a 2007 and looks a lot like the picture. Anyway did you locate the plunger switch? It seems like the most likely (mechanical fail point.

I found a website (http://www.rvvent.com/fantasticventpartsinformation.htm) with FF schematics from as early as 1991. All of them have the round fuse holder in the corner. Are you sure itโ€™s a FF or is it a knock-off brand? Is there a model number on it?

How about the vent open switch? There's a plunger switch that keeps the fan from running when it's closed. It could be stuck in.

Refer to this discussion where they mention that plus show a picture. The fuse is by the rotary switch.

Ours doesn't have the temperature knob but otherwise looks the same.

my cover switch had so much dirt in it that it would not allow the fan to work. I cleaned it up and it started work like new

The switch is not in an off position.... that would have been easy..... all the way to one side or the other...still nothing....I guess if I can figure out how to do it is to make sure there is power going to the fan

The switch for reversing the fan may have a center "off" position - the reversing switch is not at the "off" is it?
There's lots of advice and information in forums...
sometimes it is correct.

The chase I refer to is in the roof where the wires come out to power the fan. The fan is multi speed and reversable, you turn a black knob to turn on and control speed and next to it is a rocker switch exhaust and take in air... I do not see any fuse on this fan area....I have no idea how to send a picture on this forum (not that savvy) I could send a photo by email to you if you want to PM your email..but I may be asking to much? Looked at the fuse box and none were labeled for the fan.

Well I took off the handle and screen... there are the 2 yellow wires coming from the chase in the roof they are hooked to the white and green fan wires and the are 2 black wires from the chase in the roof connected to the fan black wire... no fuse can be found along either set of wires.

There is a nut holding the fan blade on....if I remove it I assume the fan blades will come off but what about the motor... cannot see any screws holding the whole unit in place....Do I go in from the top ???

Is there any where else in the TC that the fuse maybe hiding?

Dave

Our FF switch is in the housing with the fan. When you say the wires go up into the chase, does that mean your fan switch is wall mounted? Is it multi speed or reversible? Can you see the wires all the way to the fan motor? Like others have posted, ours has a black round push and turn fuse holder in the corner. There should also be a main fuse in the DC panel which may also power other circuits.

Can you post a picture?

Dave on my Fantastic Fan the fuse is under a round cap right next to the fan speed selector knob

You need to go on the roof to check the power coming to the motor.
Those fans even in cheaper option have several weak points.
Mine was running erratically and finally stop, so I bought new motor.
During disassembly I discover that the top connector to the cover switch had loose screw and the old motor runs just fine. :S
