Hi, I am looking for a campsite in the Florida Keys for next winter season.

I tried to reserve at Bahia Honda, but people must have some trics, I can never get a spot, maybe I should wake up at night and type in some dates.

We looked at it a few years back and it was full of "year rounders" that were old and not in good shape...if you get my drift. We rode by on our bikes last week and they have done alot with the place. It is cleaned up nicely! I even think we might stay there next year! FWIW last week at Boyds there was an average of about 2 dozen empty sites at any given time and around 6-8 TC's. None of which took them off the truck and they were all out exploring.

I guess the best thing would be to drive all the way to Key west and stop at all campsite on the way down. There seems to be very nice places and maybe some "Bargain" kind of say.

Thanks everyone

I always stay at Big Pine Key Campground during the summer. You can try them but I think they are pretty much booked up during season. They have a boat ramp and of course dockage.

We do Fiesta Key and Knights Key most of the times because of the boat...

I have friends who have vacation homes in Key Largo and Islamorda. We pull in with the camper and just plug in.

The place looks nice...and cheaper!

Gonna have to check it out in a few weeks when we are down there!

At Boyds on Stock Island, MM 5, you can get a inland site for $100 a night and discounted for weekly/monthly stays. We have only been going to Key West for the last 4 March's and absolutely fell in love with it. We have been to all the islands in the Caribbean and Love the Island feel and Climate. The biggest difference about Key West to us is that, I can drive there, I can sleep in my own bed and have all my belongings with me. Not living out of a suitcase.
The bed thing is probably the no 1 thing. I am a Pest Control Technician and with the rise in Bed Bugs over the last 10 yrs.....I like to sleep in my bed with just the wife and dog!!!!

I stayed at Boyds once, and will never do it again. Everything from staff treatment to size of sites was garbage. I made a reservation months in advance and was very clear about the size of my rig and its hight requirement. They stuck me in what appeared to be a tent site or maybe a site for a VW bug backseat camper. Half my truck was in the road. Several site changes in an hour later, during the summer with plenty of empty sites available , I was finally offered a site I could fit into. For more $$. At this point I pulled some new York attitude out of the bag , got the site for what the reservation cost. My frustration was that on the phone I was very clear of my hieght and length needs. Dont pull a bait and switch having me drive 1400 miles for a site that doesn't fit, especially with 2/3s of the park available. There are better choices than Boyds.
Rant over, I feel better ๐Ÿ™‚
Ive done the Keys alot, but not in high season. Eventually I'll make it down during the winter. Its a beautiful place, fantastic scenery and fishing. I love it.

Do you have any idea what hotels there cost? Try $300.00 a night!

It just goes to show there are too many people on the east coast for too little real estate, there by driving up prices. The last time I was at KW it was about $140 at the Travelodge, guess I will go elsewhere in the future

Right. And California does not have inflated land prices? Sure.

Ca is way over priced, except the weather is so nice, but I didn't like paying $55 for a premium site on beach here. I wasn't being neg. just being observant, sorry if I offended, I had a great time in KW twice

Darn internet. It is so hard to judge emotion/intent. Apology accepted.

By the way, you are right on the land costs. In my hometown, people buy a house and then bulldoze it down, just to get the land. It's sad really, because as a result, the town has no history, no soul.

Look into Knights Key in Marathon. Great people. TC's are welcome. Get a Harborside site for about $100 a night.

2000 to 2500 a month for camping in the keys, not too bad, that's only 500 a month, Gee's, most the the Camp sites are in the 60 to 80 a day in Cold Old Orchard Beach Maine in the summer.

I just come back from a trip in the carribean and it costed me 2500 for one week for two with a few activities, food and alcool included, but this was not a 5 stars place, so 2500 for a full month, with similar or even better activities, It's OK.

As for the Zodiac, I guess I could go near the shore, but I know what you mean, if it is windy, normaly this means short 2 feet wave and it shake quite a bit. Maybe cannot go every day, but as long as I can go for a few days snorkling. It was so beautiful in the Carribean.

Yes, you did misunderstand. The $3,000 mentioned was for a 3 bedroom 2 bath rental house, weekly.

$3000 monthly, not weekly

One rental mentioned here was monthly, however the majority of places down there are weekly. That was why I cautioned that against that price, it is suspiciously low.

Here is a link to one of many: Rentals

That is a much larger 4bd in Key Largo (the most expensive place) with a swimming pool. But yes, I agree there are plenty of places more than $3000 a month...but there are a few smaller home rentals that can be had in the $3000 a month area that are quite a bit larger than a Lance 1050.
