Hi all...my wife and I r going to buy a larger tt in the 7500 pound range. The new ford f150 ecoboost properly equipped is rated at 11300 with the 3.73 limited slip dif.

The f250 superduty w diesel is way overkill and another 20k in cost.

Anybody had experience w the ecoboost....340 pound feet of torque btw...thx.., bo

you can get properly equipped F150's that don't have the HD payload option that can go over 1800lbs of payload which should be more than enough to tow a 8000GVWR trailer.

that's what mine has.

Yes, as mentioned above, just make sure you don't run out of payload. Tongue weight (app. 12-15% of trailer weight), people, and gear eat it up pretty fast. The Ecoboost is a great pulling engine. I love mine!

Go with the HD Payload package and the Max Tow package and you'll be good to go.

Most half tons including most Ecoboost powered F-150s run into receiver limit and payload well under the published tow ratings. For example, the receiver limits are in the 1150 pound range for the most capable F-150s. That's 7600-9000 pound loaded RV range. Lets say you use up all that receiver rating with TW and you have a truck with 1500 pounds of payload. Do you, spouse, kids, and any camping gear weight 350 pounds? These are numbers in the range you are asking about, so the details matter.

7500 pounds dry would be good for the HD payload F-150, maybe okay for max trailer tow package, and probably not for any standard HD towing package F-150 which is 98% of F-150s sold and sitting on dealer lots.

Power wise, the 3.5L Ecoboost is plenty for most people towing RVs under 8k pounds loaded.

Again, you are only looking at the tow rating for your 7500 lb trailer.
Look at the PAYLOAD. That's the important number. If you do go with the Ecoboost, order one with the HD PAYLOAD option also.

If that is the dry weight, that's not a good number to use. Look at the GVWR of this trailer and of your next trailer. I can assure you that there will be a "next" trailer and it will be bigger and heavier.

I think that you owe it to yourself to completely price out the F150 and the F250. You might be surprised to learn that there is less difference than you think.

BTW is that your dry weight? You might find you have difference results with a trailer that heavy. The weight adds up fast. There are more than enough threads on that topic.

Agree. I have the 3.73 and towing packages. All I had to do to it was add a leaf spring. I didn't like how spongy it was. I really like the truck although I wish it had power folding mirrors. That's all I'd change on it. I hear the 2013 and up had that feature. Rats. I can't believe how well it pulls my 25RR fully loaded with full tanks, a GL1800 and a bed full of firewood. If I drive at 60 MPH I get almost 10 MPG pulling my camper.

Yep, I have experience with it. It has more than 340 ft/lb of torque -- did you mean 420 ft/lb? It is a great towing drivetrain. I have been very happy with it.
