Ford Fuel Mileage?

The window stickers don't list the fuel mileage.

I'm considering a brand new 2017 to 2018 "Work Truck" Ford F-250 Super Duty with the V10 engine and auto trans.

( The work truck series costs a LOT less than the regular line. I can get one out the door from $37,377 and up. Retiring soon, won't make payments, paying cash, won't break my bank account. I won't spend $60-70 Grand for a truck when I'll only tow the trailer 2 or 3 hours a day.)

I'm guessing it will probably deliver 9-10 MPG, and I'm guessing it won't make much difference between towing roughly 7,500 lbs. of no load at all. I have the monthly budget to afford all the gas I want but just wanted to know MPG.

Thanks

With the 6.2 6-speed, you should see about 12 in town, 15-16 on the hi-way empty, and 8-10 towing your load. Driving habits, and speeds will make every ones numbers slightly different. You will like the new gas 250!

I get about 11-12 mpg driving around town unloaded. I haven't had it long enough to take it on a long highway trip or tow with it yet. It's no better or worse MPG that the 2500HD Silverado I just sold.

For what you plan on towing 7,500 and unless you plan on fulltime travel the savings difference between gas and diesel engines will buy a lot of gas. We fulltime and tow 20,000# and enjoy the mountain areas. I say buy the truck that will do the job you want done.

Unlike trucks of 30-40 years ago, this truck will get significantly better mpg not towing, at least at freeway speed. New trucks have much more efficient fuel control systems that minimize fuel use when you don't need the power. They also have double overdrive transmissions to keep the engine speed down. Having said all that, around town you're looking at probably 10-12 mpg. Still better than my '78 big-block F250 which got 8 around town and had about 150 less hp.

If you care about mileage and longevity and power, consider a diesel.
I rented a Dodge pu with a v-10 in Alaska once with a camper on it. We got 10 mpg or less no matter how we drove it.

Oh wow, I meant V8 that's what I get for staying up after midnight and posting. I was referring to the 6.2 gas engine.

Diesel would be nice, as well as a loaded out $65-70K truck, but I won't go in debt and make payments, I'd rather pay cash and be financially free.

Thank you all for responding.

Hi... I would suggest a diesel over a gas engine for towing .... much better power ... lower fuel cost. Jim2007.

Window stickers stating fuel mileage aren't required on real trucks, only the "1/2" ton models.

Diesel will do about 20 to 30 percent better than gasoline, so you make the decision that fits your situation. You will hear all kinds of accurate and wildly stated mileage figures, so you can't base a decision on that.

6.8L V10 can still be had in the chassis cabs.

I cannot speak to mileage with the V10, but my 2017 F250 with the 6.7 has averaged 16.8 since new (nearly all uploaded since we bought in late fall, and have not been out with the trailer this spring) according to the computer, and is often in the low 20's at 70 MPH, between regeneration of the DPF. Those unfortunately bring a tank average back to above 16.5 - 17 range.

With the V10, I suspect you will be lower in the normal highway cruising, but you will not suffer the 10 MPG regens either.
