Traveling the back roads this past week in NE Georgia, I found an Avion C-11 camper. Everything appears to be in great shape inside and out. Don't know if any electrical, water or AC works. I need help/guidance for research on it. All I have is: serial # FH018, year unknown, price $5000.00. If anyone can help, I would appreciate it very much. How do I find year of manufacture ? I have some experience with restore on a '61 Airstream and have owned 3 truck campers.
Thanks in advance.

Great advice... It is like the iceberg that the Titanic hit. Full speed ahead until the 75 percent beneath the surface does serious damage, to your vision, your schedule and your wallet. Most renovations don't even come to a conclusion and the owner sells them off mid stream. Don't get me wrong, my reno turned out awesome but it did take a year and a half and damage to the pocket book.

We have an exhaustive discussion of Avion campers on the string that Ticki suggested.

Here is some advice: campers almost always look better than they are. The really bad stuff is often hidden. The price is high unless the camper can be checked very thoroughly in advance, and I doubt that there is anyone around who is familiar with Avion tcs. If the fellow won't let you check out the systems, then walk away.

The asking prices are ranging, for non restored Avion tcs, from around $1500 to $8000. An average is around $3500....you can see them on eBay from time to time. A rule of thumb is that a good restoration will cost between $10,000 and $20,000. Add that to the purchase price.

Hopefully you have some experience with older machines and know the level of work, and disappointment, that is possible.

But, I assure you, it's one of the best TCs ever built.

Best of luck.

You really should go over to the link ticki2 posted and look around, ask your questions there.
It is The most informative place for Avion truck campers, everyone there lives and breathes these classics.

I ran across it on Saturday, place was closed, however the watchman was on premises and opened the door for me to see in but I couldn't go inside the fence. I was on the way home (6 hours one way). So what I could see of the outside and inside looked really good. So today (Monday) I called the owner, said he had it 8 years, bought from his dad. Didn't know much about it except Dad took good care of it. As far as he knows (he said) everything "should" work and it never leaked. I'm trying to find a local RV service to go by and survey it for me. Then I will try to go from there. I was just wondering about price and maybe someone with experience could chime in. I know I will have to make another trip over but wanted to go better informed. I don't think the owner is willing to hook it up and test the systems. The business is a wholesale truck and equipment dealer, the old stuff.

What about the price of $5K? Seems to me to be a bit high for the work to be done. I don't even know if any systems operate.

I would think that you would have to know that and much more to even know if the price is high or low . What work has to be done ?

Did you check Tin Can Tourists?
It's a site for vintage TT's. Maybe they have some info on a TC.

The price of $5000 does seem high. Check everything and see if it works.

Like buying anything, make a low offer and start the negotiations.

Let us know if you buy it.
