Height question

Just curious. What is the average total height of a typical camper mounted on a truck like the one my Tiger is built on: A Silverado 3500HD 4X4. I'm betting it is a lot higher than my Tiger but I have never seen any measurements. My Tiger has 6'4" interior height, BTW.

Believe me, getting from the cab to the coach in a Tiger is not easy unless you are a midget contortionist. However, it can be done (I am an average-size female, 5'5" tall) in an emergency and I like being able to crawl through the extended cab area to get things out of the truck without going outside.

Truck (4x4) and camper in sig is 10' road to roof. No A/C but need to add about 8" for roof vent covers. Sounds just a little taller than your Tiger. Oh, camper interior height is 6'4"

PS: If it were in the budget I'd love a Tiger. I miss being able to go right from the driver seat to living area like I could in the van I owned in the 70's. But for now, I do still need to use the truck sans camper occasionally so this is my best compromise.

I don't think wind would be a lot different. Your lower center of gravity probably helps with handling. You can sleep soundly. ๐Ÿ˜‰

From the concrete to the top of our solar panels on our flatbed camper is 12'2" (flat roof, A/C on side, nothing else on roof)

We have 8 feet of headroom inside the camper. I am 6'7" so a Tiger with 6'4" would be pure misery.

You have jabbed them a few times, it is not necessary to twist it also. It sounds like you have a Napoleonic Complex issue.
Who, moi? ๐Ÿ˜„

No, I was not impugning truck campers at all. There are features in them I like better than those of my Tiger. And the only reason I chose a Tiger instead was access from the coach to the cab and vice versa. It does handle magnificently and, while I've towed a TT and owned bigger MHs, I've never carried a TC so I don't know what it feels like.

I don't usually go where other RVs go but like dispersed camping areas and some BLM and NFS campgrounds. In the desert, trees are obviously not a problem but they might be in my home state of WA. What about wind resistance with a higher profile?

If you are going where other RV's go it's not much of a problem to be tall, but if you are traveling old logging roads, etc. then you may have to stop and deal with an overhanging or fallen tree from time to time...but the odds that said tree will allow a 10 foot vehicle to pass and not a 12 foot one are pretty random.

From what I have seen and understand, I think a Class B would be substantially lower than a truck/tc. But as I am sure you know, a very different camping style.

The pop-ups pretty much speak for themselves for height. It to requires a different camping style, than your current rig.

That kinda leaves you with the lowest TC without a basement. That probably means no slide and smaller holding tanks. I think your height would be pretty much what mine is plus the added height the 4x4 gives you. I kinda gather the GM 4x4 trucks are the lowest.

I think billtex height setup is probably what you would have.

It depends a lot on the height of the truck, we have a tall 4X4 truck so to the top of the ac is about 11'6" but we have 6'10 headroom, more to the point how much extra did it cost to lose 1' of overall height?

Thank you. The other day I was thinking: What would I do if my Tiger got totaled? (God forbid!:E) It's not as if I could just buy another one. There is a long wait from order to delivery and there are very few pre-owned available. My obvious second choice would be a TC and I wondered how restrictive the additional height might be.

Our First TC (hard side, no slide, no AC, semi-basement) was ~ 10' 6" at highest point.

Our current TC (hard side, single slide over wheel well, full basement, no AC) is ` 10' 9' at highest point.

Both on same truck (4x4 GM, w/285 dia tires).

I don't think you can say "typical" height when it comes to TC's. Too many variables.
AC (obviously) makes a big difference in OAH.

Really is the price that would scare me off, that and that if I get tired of the camper or the truck I can just replace the one I'm tired of. You have a mini-motorhome not a truck camper. I'd term it a B+, albeit a 4WD one.
It's actually a small C. I wasn't trying to prove any point here. I've always liked truck campers but I do like being able to access the cab from the coach and the fact that it's a little lower than a TC.

Thanks, everyone! My Tiger is 10'6" including the A/C. Thanks for confirming that truck campers are usually a foot to two feet taller.
At 10'3", my TC is not a foot to two feet taller.
Note that I said 'usually'. Also, your truck is not 4X4.
My observation and logic says, a basement or north south overhead bed, will add 1 to 1-1/2 feet of height. A 4x4 typically adds 6"" to 12" height.

A chassis mount RV will be about 4" to 6" lower than a slide-in TC simply because the Class C has no bed to set the camper on. Makes no difference if 2WD or 4x4.
