Illuminated switch

Hello Everyone.

I hope you can help. I want to replace a rocker switch in my control panel of my 2015 Roo.

The switch I want to swap out is for the interior light over the dinette. It works fine but when returning to the camper in the dead of dark, the Mrs and daughter end up pressing ever other button on the control panel until I enter.

So I am looking for an illuminated 12 v switch that stays illuminated when on and most importantly when off. This will enable them to find the correct switch immediately upon entering.

I have found illuminated switch but they are only illuminated when powered on.

Any suggestions?

Happy Camping!!

Just remember: it can also pull your battery down when you are not using the RV. So you will need to make sure your battery is not connected, or that the trailer is connect to electricity, or that you have solar or another source to keep it up.

JR products have many different colored and styles of switches. Amperage is the thing to look at. A higher amperage switch should last longer.

Go to a truck dealer. Peterbilt comes to mind. Heavy duty and illuminated.

There are many switches that have five terminals on them. You can wire them in different ways to light up all the time or just on or off. I got mine from a China dealer through Amazon.com.

One way to have the switch to always illuminate would be to use a SPDT switch that is ON-OFF-ON (center off) and just not connect to one side of the switch. A DPDT switch might also work by jumpering a the right connections (just a guess on this one).

One of these mini rocker switches might also work: American Technology Corp. It says their switch has backlighting available and the info. on this page seems to show that the LED is always on. Don't see where they list actual part numbers and may need to call them.

I have not tried it but on the standard switch illustrated above, i am betting if you reverse the power & accessories leads, it will work, and the light will stay on when on or off.

The illuminated switch has three terminals.
One is a ground
One with power
One with the load.
The light will be on if the power to the switch is applied to the correct incoming power terminal and not the load side.

They are readily available. There are several dimensions/styles of low voltage switches as well. Do a google on "illuminated RV switch" and you'll find lots of them. If near a dealer or independent RV parts store, they can get you one.

One thing to know about an illuminated switch is that you'll need a 12 volt DC source that is always on. If all you have is two wires at the switch, you'll need to get another wire to the switch with power that is always on. The switch will have 3 terminals on the rear like in the photo.

My second option is to put a small LED nite lite above the control panel but not my desire. Than means we have to remember to turn it on before leaving.

I have the same issue with my Roo, except mine is the kitchen light that works off the rocker switch. If someone finds one that is illuminated A) When off, or B) Always illuminated, I would love to install it. Plan B will be to just put a little LED night light there to illuminate the panel.
