Interesting way to air condition an Airstream

Driving home from work today, I found myself behind an airstream trailer with a residential style mini split air conditioner hanging off the back. It kind of struck me as odd.

50A service is already 240. Same as your dryer at home.

I put a minisplit in a man cave in my basement, and it works great!!! Quiet an efficient. The one I installed was 240v, and 12k btu. All of the 110v that I saw were 8k btu or so.

Also without ducting them I wonder how well it would work in a typical RV, or if you could connect it into the ducting.

One thing I was wondering is you are supposed to have I think a foot of airspace on either side of them. I wonder if it has enough airflow.

with the advertising on the back window, i would guess it is used as a business or information center. where the door may be opened often. thus requiring a larger ac unit...

That's what I was thinking. Some sort of mobile education trailer, kind of like the book mobile.

Plus itโ€™s in Florida. You need really good AC.

I've seen a few mini split installs over the years. Most people who do install one seem to be pretty happy with it's performance. They cool down the trailer just as well, but when running they're almost silent. If there was a condenser unit that was designed the lay flat vs upright then you could install that piece on the roof instead of on the tongue or back bumper.

I have thought about that too. Seems like there's even room underneath some rigs to put them.

That looks to be a 1 ton system or less. So only about 12K BTU.

It's in a left turn only lane. Maybe the picture was taken during the "off" portion of the blink.
